Comment:
I am retaking this class along with half of my class from last semester. She is disrespectful & belittles students. Her only comments on your papers will be "whats the point." Impossible to get above a C on anything. She says it's to make you better but I think it is a power trip and she enjoys being rude. Not very social-worker-like of her. Avoid.

I would not advise anyone to take her if they do not have to. She is not clear on what she wants and she is rude. Your whole paper will say WHATS THE POINT and that it. She does not give good feedback and you have to try and figure out what she means on your own. If you do not want to be stressed DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!

This was by far the hardest class Ive ever taken. Professor Baratta is an extremely tough grader and challenges her students. That being said, I learned a lot throughout the course. There are many papers for this class and grading is not very clear, however Professor Baratta is willing to help any student who reaches out to her.

This was the hardest class I have ever taken in my entire life. I am an A student and Baratta's class was stressful and very time consuming. With that said, I feel if I got through her class, I could get through ANY CLASS! she grades on improvement. I got a 42 on my first assignment, 50 on the second and 90 on the third and still passed with a B

I do not think we made it through a whole power point during the whole semester, but she expects you to know them. Cancelled the exams we were supposed to have and we had one quiz instead. She doesn't give great feedback on any papers and isn't very helpful with questions.

Dr. Baratta is a difficult grader for papers but your final grade depends more on you showing improvement. I found that going to her office hours was extremely helpful. Dr. Baratta knows about her field and teaches you as best she can. While she does show bias and favoritism, it's easy to get on her good side. Take her if you want to learn a lot.

Dr. Baratta is one of my favorite professors at Central. She is a tough grader; that being said if you go to her office hours and show her that you are actually trying, she will be more than happy to work with you. She is very understanding and will happily work with you. She wants everyone to pass and will help you get the A you want and derserve.

Dr. B is a tough professor but if you go see her at her office hours her door is always open. This is my third class with her and I am already used to her. She has a unique teaching style ad is very eccentric. What I love is that she is one of the most passionate SWs in the program. She is only tough on her students because she cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't expect to get an A in this class, unless you work super hard for it. The only good thing about her is that she assigns rewrites for papers if the student needs one. She doesn't really explain assignments well, and expects us to figure it out ourselves.

Baratta seems like a decent human being so, this is not an attack on her as a person. With that said, she can be a lot to handle. Often times she digresses from the subject. Also, her office hours (8-9am) are a bit unreasonable for someone with a job. I found the Writing Center to be helpful. Take her if you must, if possible find a different prof.

Very nice person, but the hardest grader. Impossible to ask questions and get a response. We were supposed to have 4 quizes but only had 1. As long as you show up and do the work, you will get a B no matter what grades you get on the assignments.

Not many tests but multiple writing assignments. We did a long research paper that we worked on throughout the class with smaller assignments. Rubrics/grading/assignments are very unclear so ASK! She loves when you go to her office hours for help so take advantage of them. They're beneficial! She'll tear apart your work (don't take it personally).

Overall, I thoroughly have enjoyed my experience with Dr. Baratta throughout the last two years. She is a caring, intelligent and incredibly witty professor who only wishes to see you succeed as long as you work hard. Stay focused and push yourself. As a result of taking her classes your writing will dramatically increase.

Dr. Baratta is the best professor in the social work program at CCSU. People don't like her because she expects more out of her students, your overall grade is really about how hard you worked in the class. She is funny, and inspirational. Work hard and ask questions and you will do well! Shes the best!

This professor never got back to me via email, if I needed a question answered I'll have to wait to see her in class to ask. She's not very clear about assignments and although you try your best it felt like it did not matter, TOUGH grader. It discouraged me from taking another SW class. It did not feel like a 100 level course.

She is a great professor. She is strict on her papers but its because she wants one to do better. The papers are the only thing that becomes hard. She is clear about the assignments and knows her stuff.

Dr. Baratta tries to be intimidating at the very beginning of the semester but honestly, she's a nice person. She's tough about deadlines and she basically is preparing us for the rest of college. The 10 pager for this class is the worst but manageable if you work with her. Lectures are Powerpoints so study those, her tests aren't hard

The class is organized well and shows clear grading expectations. Even after reading reviews, I did not notice Dr. Baratta's tough grading until the final paper. It was tough to get such a negative feed back and then have to rewrite it. I do believe that she is always there to help and everything she does is to push us. Also, shes hilarious.
