Comment:
This class is alright. He just takes examples from his textbook and goes through them during class. The textbook is a must. However, his final is not representative of the entire course, which is not fair. His accent is thick and it was sometimes hard to understand him during class. The TAs were very helpful for the class.

One of the best math professors i've had so far. Amazing lectures and pretty comical at times. 3 short tests, weekly homework and a final. Make sure to have his textbook, I miss him already. If you like math you'll enjoy this class :)

Comment:
Absolutely overrated. Stopped going to lectures about halfway in and started doing better. His "lectures" amount to him doing a couple of problems which are line-for-line from the textbook. Don't expect to learn anything you couldn't have learned from an hour with the book. It's safe to say I feel cheated out of my tuition for this class

lectures do not really help, reviews as well better off going to more recitations then to lectures to learn, basically self taught from homework and recitations, free online textbook, cheat sheet for tests are very helpful

This class was physics, calculus, and programming heavy. He explains certain concepts and expects you to be able to implement the code for that. Overall the material was difficult. The grading was pretty lax, but the curve is not in your advantage. I got a 95% average and got an A-. Professor is caring and very helpful with homework.

Deng is great- he's funny and wants you to succeed. The class is hard, but he's fair and listens to students, like when people told him the class was too fast paced he slowed down. That said, his slides can be a little difficult to reread sometimes, and the way he stores old lectures is annoying to access.

The best professor to have for AMS361. A lot of his test questions and homework questions are straight from his textbook, so definitely buy it. Just copy as many of the questions from the end of the sections onto your cheat sheet and you should be fine. He is the bro

A highly overrated professor. He is very nice and friendly, but you will not learn much at all from his class since his lectures and notes are largely incoherent ramblings with insufficient explanations. Also, all of our tests/assignments involve writing a program, yet not a single line of code was ever shown in lecture or on the notes -- not once

He explains the material pretty well, although he goes through his lectures too fast. He doesn't post them online, but they're pretty parallel to his textbook. His first midterm was harder than it should've been, but for the most part he's pretty fair.

Professor Deng is honestly one of the best professors you can find here at Stony Brook when it comes to Mathematics. He is funny, albeit sometimes corny, but he really does make learning math so much fun. You are allowed a cheat sheet front/back for all tests, and 3 front/back for final; making the tests a breeze. 10/10 would take him again!!

Does not teach concepts very well and instead focuses on "plug and chug" methods to get a quick answer. A few of these methods do not make logical sense and I needed a good deal of outside help to learn the (general???) method. The textbook written by the professor doesn't help in explaining concepts and just gives the plug and chug method.

The nicest and funniest professor I've had so far. He explains things well, and if you try and do most problems in his textbook, you should be okay for hw and tests. Office hours can be a bit messy but the TAs were awesome when I needed help.

Great Professor. Buy his textbook, it is the key to get an A. If you can do the problems in the textbook, you'll Ace his exams. Choose the 40% hw, 30% exams, 30% final distribution. His textbook also has detailed solutions to every problem in the book. Have Fun!

Deng is one of the best math professors I've had. As he lectures, he adds quick jokes that fit in perfectly with what we are learning. He lets the class vote on the percentages of the homework, midterms, and final exam. I would choose 40% for the homework, 15% for the hard final, and 45% for the 3 midterms. He is always there 247 by email to help.

The class is alright. His teaching is pretty good. You will find his class is helpful if you go to the lecture everyday, but the test gets harder and harder. This is a class you can vote for the grade distribution. If you vote more for the homework, the homework will be extremely hard.
