Comment:

To describe moorthy in one word: AWFUL. HIs accent is heavy and he is hard to understand. He teaches with an overhead projector and is very unclear when explaining concepts in class. I recommend staying away from this professor, unless you enjoy teaching yourself straight from the book.

Moorthy knows what he's talking about and gives you a ton of opportunities to come in for extra help or questions. he goes over what will be on tests and is a fair grader. He's a pretty good professor and not that difficult to understand once you get used to his accent.

Comment:

Moorthy is not as bad as the other raters claim. He teaches by example, stresses what he wants you to know, and is always willing to answer qs in class and in office hours. There has never been something on the exam that was not taught or was not in the book. The class average was always over 80% so idk why everyone complained so much..

If you can avoid this class, do. Moorthy is very difficult to understand and really did not teach me anything. Thank goodness I had a good TA, otherwise I would have failed that class.

Moorthy means well with his teaching, but he does not work in a coherent manner. His exams were extremely hard considering what he said was going to be on it. He also has this annoying habit to keep saying, "are you following this?" He knows his stuff, but does not convey it well to others.

Moorthys NOT that bad. First exam- 1/4 of the class got 90+. A lot of students don't ask for help until the discussion before the test. This is stats- it's math (barely) the topics build on each other so you have to keep up. He always answers qs, emails, and holds extra office hrs before the test. If you do what you're supposed to, you'll do fine.

Moorthy is an abomination. Absolutely awful. Purposely tries to make tests overly difficult and likes to include abstract material that was never covered in class. Horrible, horrible class. It's disgusting than our tuition goes toward paying this man. BEWARE MOORTHY!

Explains concepts very well. I never had to read the textbook. Slightly awkward and strict at times, but as long as you don't take advantage of him when he's lenient, you'll appreciate him and his teaching.

Awful. He is disorganized and dodges questions instead of answering them. He has a very thick accent and is hard to understand. The text he uses is dry and complicated; it's a biostat textbook even though a lot of lib. arts majors have to take it. I had a 5 on AP Stat test but dropped this to preserve my GPA. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

Posting just to say, if you're avoiding taking 116 because of Moorthy, then don't listen to the reviews. He teachers by example, which is extremely helpful, and his curving was very, very normal. He' funny and nice; he let me turn in my homework late, even though syllabus says otherwise.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! He lost 2 of my homeworks and than wanted to just put them in as zeros. During a timed final with 8 pages of math computation to do, he went around interupting people and asking for ID's. He has no knowledge of how to teach and interact with students. He is rude and does not realize that WE PAY HIS SALARY!!!

The worst math professor I've had my whole life. He doesn't answer emails, doesn't show up for office hours, asks things on the exam he has never taught, and is rude when you ask a question. Advisers were telling students to not take MA116 until a new professor came because he's THAT bad!! He'll find a way to take off points no matter what!

Worst class I have ever taken in my life. I had to take it for my major and was stressed the entire semester. He can't explain any of the topics, frequently loses his notes, and repeats lectures. I was glued to the book the entire semester and I passed the homework by vid chatting with a friend and comparing answers. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.

i'm not very good at math...but this class was very easy. straight from the book and class. MAKE SURE you go to class though because he likes to test specific things he says in class. also, while he doesn't do attendance every day, he does do it like twice during the semester so if you miss it, you're screwed.

I'm pretty bad at Stats, it's basically from the book in this class. He doesn't grade anything so if you have a dispute no point taking it up with him. Graders tend to be really anal too. Wasn't really helpful in office hours and tries to be a hardass but eventually folds about late hw and makeup exams. hope for a good TA
