Comment:
So disorganized. She was often very unclear or didnt even address what the reading for next class was and then would quiz on the content and several times the reading was not what was on the syllabus. Her lectures are unfocused and I did not find them engaging nor insightful. I honestly did not learn anything from her nor did I improve my writing.

Rico is BRILLIANT. Taking notes and getting everything down can be difficult, but she has so much knowledge on old English texts, it's insane. Participate and go to class (on time) to get on her good side. She is willing to help you succeed in any way she can. The beginning is really intimidating, but fight through it - it's worth it.

Rico is old school all the way. She's brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Has a wry and super intelligent sense of humor. She is also intensely generous and kind, showing a lot of compassion and humanity as a person and a prof. Bonus: Ask her about some anecdotes about being in class with Hillary Clinton at Yale!

Dr. Rico, like all brilliant people, likes to tell you just how brilliant she is. Regardless, the fact remains that she is brilliant. She grades hard. Very hard. Prepare to cry. Good news: you will come away a better writing w a comprehensive understanding of Shakespeare's tragedies. Take if you value knowledge over grades. Highly recommend

Professor Rico will challenge you and pick your brain out, but she means well. She is an excellent professor who knows her stuff and plays no games. Participation and attendance is very important. She is very helpful during office hours. Take a class of hers if you want to come out smarter and better than before!

Rico's not a bad professor but she likes the sound of her own voice a little bit too much.Be careful w her grading system! I got As on my essays but received a B+ as a final grade bc I wouldn't participate. She expects her students to know obscure facts about things like the Spanish Renaissance, she won't explain herself.Don't take her.

Portrait of the Artist class. the class was interesting and mostly discussion based which helped understand the material. must do reading for every class or it will become difficult to catch up! journal entries every class, a couple large papers and a final. Pr. Rico is difficult but nothing that couldn't be manged for a good grade.

She was completely disorganized and frustrating in her grading methods. I never knew what my grade was because she never passed back our quizzes or journals. She is an unreasonably hard grader. I would not recommend her. She does like her subject a lot though.

Makes Shakespeare a bit easier to understand. Class participation is necessary and she will call on people randomly. Daily journal entries during class, 2 papers 5-8 pages (one analytical, the other more creative), 1 group presentation, random quizzes and a final. Very helpful in office hours, for first paper they are mandatory but really useful.

I've taken a couple of her classes. She's one of the best professors I've had and the only professor I know that will actually go through your papers with you line by line. She knows what she is talking about. For notes, write what you hear because the whiteboard can be confusing. Also, do the reading. The class is interactive but you learn a lot!

Dr. Rico's class isn't easy if you are a slacker. If you participate and go to her office hours (which are extreamely helpful), then you should do just fine. She will go out of her way to help you. When it comes to Shakespeare, she is the best you can learn from. I went into the class hating Shakespeare and ended up liking it.

I can tell she's brilliant and knows her stuff, but taking her for a freshman english class is HORRIBLE. shes all over the board, its hard to understand what she wants from you, and shes sooo annoying!! the class is relatively easy, but sitting through her occasional fake french accent and constant interruptions makes it extremely difficult to bear

shes brilliant. you cant leave her class not knowing absolutely everything you read. her classes are intense, the reading is a bit heavy and she doesnt tolerate absenses and tardiness. BUT, shes a good teacher and you learn a lot. She ALWAYS listens and helps when u have problems. I recommend her! I took her twice and i loved her classes.

Shakespeare is of all classes, her very best to teach. While others may feel her other classes boring and horrid, this shows her absolute genius, for it is her passion, and reaosn for teaching. A must take. Office hours are always open for the student, though harder to obtain towrds finals week.

Very passionate about her field and reading texts. She is very upbeat and connects the material with modern day. She makes you want to feel the same passion about literature. Assignments and grading system is slightly ambiguous. She has set expectations that she wants from students: originality of thought, good writing, and lots of participation.

Very smart and witty. Knows it. Lots of reading and class participation based on reading. She makes class interesting. Can be extremely unclear on assignments and due dates. Does not like to repeat herself. Expects a lot for a lower division English class.
