Comment:
This professor is cruel and unfair. When a student brought problems directly to him, he yelled in the presence of other administrators. Stay far away from him and his explosive personality.

I have had the displeasure of meeting with this professor. While I have not used this site previously, I was so inspired by my negative interaction this semester that I felt it was my duty to warn other students. I would not take another class with him if my life depended on it.

He does not treat students with disabilities with respect. He will laugh at students in class. First midterm average was 40%. Avoid this teacher unless your schedule forces your enrollment.

To be honest I really thought this class was going to be easy. First 3 weeks homework was a joke material was straight forward. First exam had little relevance to what he had been doing in lecture. He gave no review problems and almost no hint as to what to expect. Class average was failing. One mistake results in about a 90% loss in points.

He has actually addressed most of his problems this quarter, but you're still better off learning from the book and the book only.

He's Terrible. I asked him how to solve a problem about a surjection and he told me that was pre-calculus material and wouldn't help me. He also won't give solutions to the homework. His english is terrible. Overall veryun helpful and I am considering changing my major because of this man. My major currently is math.

Mityagin is the worst prof in the math dept at OSU (confirmed and quoted by my academic adviser). Impossible to follow him and take notes when he is lecturing, doesn't use examples to explain things, and then wonders why people score poorly on exams. Laughed in my face and others after asking to clarify something. Do not take this joke of a prof.

I am dead serious about this review. I had Boris for differential equations in 1982. He used a real bell curve for the course. Almost everyone got C's. It was almost impossible to get an A or an F for that matter. He was a math genious who could not relate to real people. If you get him, drop the course immediately.

He is worthless. He didn't answer homework questions even though he graded and handed them back to everyone. Whenever he does help, he gives vague hints that suggest things you already know. You have to do every problem in the book to have a shot at doing well on tests, but the curve is big. Nevertheless, avoid this guy.

I have to disagree with the negative feedback left by others. He explains the concepts really well. Exams are difficult but that helped me get a good grade, low median :) . I highly recommend him if you want to LEARN it!

I largely concur with other posters. Uninformative lectures, comically difficult midterms. For example, he spent half an hour writing out a solution to a single midterm problem...yet it was one of eight we had 48 minutes to do. If someone had described this class to me, I would not have believed it. A living argument against the tenure system.

Wore the same whirt, shorts, and sandals every day. Walked in, pulled out a folded piece of paper, wrote on the board, walked out. That was 11 weeks of class.

This man couldn't teach fish to swim. I even wrote that on my course evaluation. Reading the book may help, but probably not a lot. This guy is infamous in the College of Engineering. Ask just about anyone, I'm sure they've probably had him... and hated the class...

Boris is the worst math professor I've ever had...you absolutely can't understand anything he says. He started teaching one of our lectures using a grad-level physics equation that was left on the board from the previous class...talk about a whacko...

Taking this class was much like being in hell, except I imagine the devil would be much better looking and be able to enunciate better than Mr. Mityagin. Take some advice from the 60% that dropped this class, and DROP IMMEDIATELY. Save yourself the pain.

Boris has trouble enunciating difficult words such as "six" and "here." I've never had problems with a teacher's accent before, but this was just horrible. Something's wrong if over half the class drops. Don't take this class.
