Comment:
A lot of people think Dr. Mills is strict or boring (or both), but personally I found his lectures highly structured and went to his office often to discuss issues. Classic Jp was fascinating! I credit him and the entire department for my advanced fluency. I've been in Japan for well nigh 10 years and would've never made it w/o him.

Comment:
Mills can be strict when it comes to classwork and such, but that's mostly just true of the Japanese 1 course. He (and Takabatake) are very hard on first years because they are laying the brickwork for further Japanese study. If you do take the time to study and practice, it pays off very well with Mills. He's much less strict in later courses tho.

Comment:
Mills sensei is extremely helpful and nice. He's slightly strict when it comes to small mistakes on quizzes, but it helps you pay closer attention the next time. He's silly and makes what could be, an extremely dull lecture kind of enjoyable. I do see why a person misspelling simple English words, such as ridiculous, might think he's a harsh grader

Comment:
I went into the class because I had to take the advanced Japanese and was stunned by how much I enjoyed it. Mills clearly knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic. It's a lot of consistent work, and it really gets to be a lot towards the end of the semester, but if you keep up with translations the tests aren't hard.

Better than Takabatake for sure. He's funny, class is more interesting, and though he points out what students need to work on, he notes the accomplishments we should be proud of too. Fair with late work, easy to get a hold of, generally friendly. I really liked this professor. A prof that knows his stuff and can teach it too.

Comment:
Dr. Mills does not care about students who for any legitimate reason cannot keep up with his rediculous standards. His lecture style is terrible and he treats everyone like robots instead of human beings. I have no idea who gave him a good rating, he is the worst professor I have EVER had. I don't actually know a single person who doesn't agree.

Comment:
Mills is adamant that students keep up with their work. His explanations correspond with the daily recitations while giving students a chance to ask questions in English. The class isn't writing focused and uses romanji a lot. He emphasizes pronounciation. Mills is good humored and smiles a lot while you take your final oral interview.

He's silly, but enjoyable. His motto is LUST and well.. he's an older man so it's scary, but I really like him as a sensei.
