I took her class 17 years ago just before entering my master's program and I still use many of the things she taught us. This was probably the most useful class overall in my entire university career (I have a BS and MS from BYU, and a Ph.D. from LSU).

Coach Witt was undoubtedly the best lecturer I have ever had throughout my entire college career. the ability she had to make what she was discussing so important, so compelling and captivating, it was impossible not to pay attention. Her feedback was always very observant and helpful. I didn't love public speaking before, but I do now.

Professor Witt likes to go by "Coach." And she is GREAT at coaching anyone to become a better speaker. Coach does nothing but encourage, and is full of positivity. She makes speaking fun and very enticing. I would recommend taking public speaking from her to anyone! Seriously, you want to know Elain Witt!

Coach is an absolute gem. She is a bit opinionated and gets most of her ideas from the crazy side of Fox news, but she's so sweet and adorable that it's hard to take offense even if you don't agree with most of what she says. Take this class from her! It will change your life. (Also, she gives you the textbook for free!)

This class was a great way to not only get comfortable speaking in front of an audience but learn how to write and present effective speeches. I can't emphasize enough, Coach is one of the unique and special professors I have ever had. She's got great enthusiasm, humor, and really knows what she's talking about. Take the class!

Coach Witt is one of the most kind, caring, and genuine professors I've had. I know she cares about me and prays for my future success, as she does for every one of her students. I feel like she believes in me, and that's why she wants to share these invaluable communication skills that she has taken years to learn. I highly recommend her class.

Coach is the best teacher I have had at BYU. Those who are critical of her inner confidence or personality are probably self-conscious and struggling with their own. Coach is extremely passionate about her class and helping her students succeed. Is that such a bad thing? I guarantee you will not regret taking this class from her. It changed my life

Coach Witt is definitely qualified and is caring and wants the best for you. I did notice however that while she has many great speeches and good advice, I felt that sometimes she lacked inner confidence & required the class's approval in order to feel validated. Enjoyed giving my own speeches (once a week); that's where I learned the most.

Coach is a nice and qualified, but I felt like she focussed too much on herself. She is really concerned about looking good. She likes having students win speech contests for that reason. She will randomly start signing during some classes, and try to sell you her books. She wants recognition. If she were more humble, it could be a great class.

Coach Witt is passionate, invested, and simply incredible. I attended one of her off-site workshops and was floored that working professionals shell out hundreds of dollars for her coaching--yet she gives her wisdom and insights to BYU students for free. This class was inspiring and I now love public speaking. Don't miss this opportunity.

Coach is one of the most influential professors I've ever had. She's always enthusiastic in class, genuinely loves each and every student, and is just flat out a great teacher. If taking TMA 150, don't take it from anyone other than Coach! Her class is fun, there are treats each week, and the final is a breakfast at Coach's house. You'll love it!

Coach is amazing. She really cares about you as a person and is one of the best friends you will ever make. Getting an A in the class is not only a breeze, but it's just the cherry on top of what coach teaches you and how she molds you into the speaker you want to be. Attending this class was a very exciting part of my week.

I think the negative commenter must be talking about a different professor, because you have to actually try REALLY HARD to get anything other than an A. I would say she is what other BYU professors in other departments should strive for: actually caring about students becoming better people and learning something. Definitely recommend her.

Coach Witt changed the way I speak and communicate forever. She is SO passionate about your success and growth, and her format of weekly speeches and personal stories accelerated our abilities. We lucked out to be taught by such a professional coach, and yet still feel like she cares about us individually. All I have to say is WOW! Take this class!

Excellent class! If you don't take the time to prepare or incorporate the strategies taught then you wont do well. She truly tries to help her students succeed and become better public speakers but not if they don't put in the work. She's very clear about assignment expectations but her teaching style can be unstructured. Awesome professor overall!

Comment:
She is very eager but is equally dated. Lectures feel like taking a CS class where the professor uses a walkman, "so darn neat, sweetie!" I attended every class and because she never posts anything about grades, unorganized, ended up with a less than stellar grade as did much of the class even after she promised an A. Will be a wild card at best.

This has been the best and most useful class I have taken at BYU. Public speaking is something everyone should learn, and "Coach" Witt really pushes you to be the best you can be! It was a pretty stressful class, but rewarding. Easy A, but the more you put into it, the more you get. Seriously so glad I took this class from her, you wont regret it!
