This professor will give you a hard time just for the fun of it. Instead of being straightforward, he rather be sarcastic. Your grade is not important to him. It doesnt matter if you show him youre a go-getter or your dedication and passion for earning a passing grade, he DOES NOT care. My best advice is to keep all evidence of your passing work!

No textbook; no clear lecture plan most of the time. You can only be late/absent a certain number of times. More like unfair grader over tough grader. My ride alongs were both Cs because i didn't put an end time and had one typo. two mistakes from his grading criteria gets you a C. Ridiculous. Discussion was ok sometimes but I didn't learn anything

i had E. Quimby for intro to soc1 and also juvenile delinquency at LIU in the late 60's. D in soc1 registered for JD and low and behold, E. Quimby again!!! to drop or not drop, that was the question. well, i took it as a challenge. JD grade was a B (which for the type of student i was, was a pretty good grade. just figure him out. he'sOK

Comment:

Professor Quimby may have been the worst professor I have had out of the four years I have attended Howard. He almost always condescending and sarcastic. He never taught the class but instead had the students teach the content from day one. He never went over the text or explained any of the concepts.

Dr. Quimby is a character for sure. But, once you get to know him and his standards then the class will be everything you ever wanted. He doesn't accept mediocre answers or attendance. This is a real college class and if you use him the way you should you will succeed not only in his class but other sociology classes to come.

Attendance is mandatory. Do not come late to this class. I was scared to take this class because of the reviews but he is NOT THAT BAD. In response to the comment below me, he always posts on Blackboard when we will not have class so be sure to check each day. He is a character. Class discussions are always funny. This was a fun class. Take him!

Best advice I can give is WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING. I can't stress this enough. He is very forgetful and doesn't like to admit it. He'll tell you "NO CLASS WHEN IT SNOWS" then mess around & have class. You MUST attend class. He opens class up for discussions a lot which is cool. If he wasn't forgetful & stubborn he'd be a better teacher!

There are a few disturbing things about this man. He doesn't seem to be bias or try to persuade you to think a specific way which is good but he is very FORGETFUL. Be sure to write down everything he says, verbatim! It can get to the point where it effects your grade if you don't call him out on it.

Dr. Quimby is a hot mess! Either u like him or u dont like him.Either he likes you or he doesnt like u.I didnt like him @ first then in the end found out he was a really good guy. Sarcastic, direct, and caring. He cares greatly about attendence so if you think you can just fill space with his class think again. DO THE WORK, no BS and come to class

Dr. Quimby is a very good teacher. NOT an easy teacher. He will call you out when your slacking but if you stay on top of your work and ask for help when you need it, you will definitely pass this class. He is also a very caring teacher if he sees that your trying. You have to be mature to deal with him...I don't recommend him for freshmen.

Quimby is a GREAT teacher. The class is very interesting. Sometimes he goes off on tangents, but for the most parts the discussions are relevant and thought provoking. It is pretty easy to do well in his classes. All you have to do is do the assignments and come to class! If you are lazy and don't like to do work, this is not the class for you.

Interesting reviews...I've found that Dr. Quimby is an outstanding professor, but don't take his class if you are not willing to get your act together, or are not willling to work hard. This is college for goodness sakes, a lot of us need to work on our maturity in a hurry. Talk to him outside of class. He cares a LOT about his students.

Dr. Qimby is an outstanding professor who conceptualizes his lectures from complex to simple. In this style, everyone is able to understand his lectures. I think that the students (we) have problems because we do not read unless there is an exam. Keep the good work up!

He is the most RUDE, IMPOSSIBLE professor ever. He loves to embarrass students in class. He cuts u off when u talk, his lectures never hav 2 do with the class. He makes u buy a $130 book that u won't use. My advice DROP it. In fact he will bring drop slips the 1st week of class. DO IT. I'm on the Dean's list so i'm a good student but he is a jerk.

Quimby is an ok guy. He has a difficult personality if your sensitive, but is actully very funny. He is very knowledgeable in the criminology field. I have taken 3 classes with him have gotten all A's. Do not miss unnecessary classes and DO NOT COME LATE! The assignments are pretty easy you just need to justify EVERYTHING you write on your exams.

QUIMBY IS REALLY NOT THAT BAD IF YOU FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS ON THE FEW ASSIGNMENTS THAT HE GIVES.GRADE IS BASED ON REGULAR ATTENDANCE, TWO ESSAY TAKE HOME EXAMS AND THE CTAP. IF YOU DO A GOOD CTAP YOU WILL DEFINTELY PASS THE CLASS WITH NOTHING LOWER THAN A "B". I'VE HAD HIM TWICE AND GOT AN "A" IN BOTH CLASSES. HE CAN BE SARCASTIC AT TIMES THOUGH.
