Comment:
Dr. Irsfeld taught me how to write. He wrote two wonderful novels. He taught me how to read poetry and fiction and how to tell stories. He gave me his love of language and of life. I took every class with him I could, then spent hours after class talking with him about everything that matters. He was all those years ago a second father.

I had Dr. Irsfeld for many courses. He was always there, and expected nothing less from his students. He did not appreciate nor tolerate slackers. I was able to take his creative writing class 2x, and also took other courses with him. Do not regret any class. Outstanding teacher! More instructors should be like him!

Expects you to care about the class. An extremely self-disciplined writer who has written a few novels. I'm more of a non-fiction guy, so I had trouble writing stories, but he made the class worthwhile. I only wished I hadn't skipped class sometimes. I felt as though I had let him and myself down, and in a way, I had. (Do NOT show up late)

The best writing teacher I ever studied. Too bad he wouldn't let me take his class. He taught me more about writing than anyone I ever read or tried to study with, Demands hard work: just my kind of professor. To heck with slackers and posers.

I have never learned so much about writing short stories. A lot of people complained about his stories but they were always relevant and enjoyable. I love that we don't have to learn everything in such a "textbook manor" because he really knows what he's talking about. You will know whether you want to write or not by the end of his class.

Great professor! He has a lot of personal stories, but they add flavor. He knows everything about the literature you will be reading, always has a lot to say about the stories. Would definately recommend the class for lovers of literature. If you don't like reading, don't take him.

Irsfeld is great! He's got a black sense of humor and he's very sarcastic, but funny and very knowledgeable. He really knows his stuff and for the amount of material in the course he does a good job of providing analysis. He also teaches some great concepts.

I love Irsfeld! Great professor that has a lot of experience (teaching UNLV since 1969). There is a lot of reading (12 novels) and in-class films. If you stay on top of it you will easily get an A. Oh yeah, don't show up late for class.

Great teacher! He was hard but you will learn a lot! I took him in the summer so he did not have a chance to ramble on, but he did at times. His test are mostly memorization (quotes, definations, and characters) I enjoyed his class!

He was a good teacher because he knows what he's talking about but was boring at times. The summer course goes fast but he doesn't prepare you for the test. He's a pretty interesting old guy and has a bunch of stories to tell.

Worst professor at UNLV by far. He rambles on in class about his personal stories. He has no organized structured way of teaching the class. I didn't learn a thing in his class and I regret taking it. Doesn't give study guides and tests are nothing like what you go over in class. He also hates his job and lets you know about it in class.

Very tough, but cool professor. Treats his students with the utmost professional demeanor, and expects to be treated as such in return. So far, the best professor I've had at UNLV.

He is very good and passionate about what he does. Although he is very old fashioned and appreciates being on time and paying attention. The way he writes tests are not the way he has prepared you for them. Know the authors and settings of stories and you should do ok.
