I've taken this course a few years back and I can say Garry is definitely one of the teachers I can still remember to this day. I was never great in school but if there was one course I would average 80% and up it was in English. However in Garry's class I passed with a high 60. There were about 3 out of 20 people left at the end of the semester.

He would announce to the class that we are doing terrible and congratulate those that are doing well infront of the entire class, which puts them in a terrible position. He then tells everyone how we have the English skills of 5th graders. He actually tore up a few essays of students infront of the class before just for spite. I regret meeting him.

I took this class as an elective in my fourth year and ended up dropping it halfway because he wrote he didn't like my writing style as feedback on my essays. Though this is a lower liberal english course and I have taken much more difficult classes, I have never struggled to please someone this well before. Avoid unless required.

He is smart but struggles to convey his knowledge to students. Wrote that I was off-topic and that I didn't understand the objective on every essay. Also told me I was illiterate, but I have a university English credit? Worst class. I don't know one person that is doing well. Print off EVERY article, you use them constantly.

I presented to him 3 different essay outlines and each time he would say, "you clearly don't understand the essay question" instead of HELPING me understand where I was going wrong. Ive never gotten below an 80 in my essays and he gave me a 50. He's rude, dry and constantly "uhh" and "ahhh"ing b/w sentences, Get ready to snooze in class!

I honestly really enjoyed his class. Even if he was a hard marker, the way he convey the course materials were really interesting. Can't say he is the best professor, but he was definitely passionate and knowledge with the materials. Just do what you need to do, and you will be fine!

Underrated prof. UNDERRATED. He may seem confusing because his stories and examples are random but trust me when I say they tie into the readings. Pay attention and participate.. "Read instructions carefully."

You will NOT pass if you're lazy. PRINT ALL READINGS (there's more in Essay Do's&Donts) and read them before class. Gives clear feedback on what you did wrong but wow does he ever take off marks for mistakes. Class average has been 40% since beginning of the semester, choose another teacher if you want an 80+, but he really does want you to learn.

He is an opinionated marker. Everything he writes is perfect but everything you write is wrong. It barely matters how precise and full your writing is he will mark it wrong as he would have done it differently. He teaches fun facts and laughs at his own jokes half the class instead of teaching us how to pass his forever wrong course. Average is 30%

Garry is ver knowledgeable and his lectures are always interesting. I've learned a lot in his class. His tests are fun and he gives you options of picking between doing an essay or short answers which is great. He's not very approachable in terms of work as he gets easily irritated. However, I do look forward to his classes.

Very hard marker. He wants everything to be perfect. He's very rude and will make you look like your stupid all the time. Avoid his class if you really want a good mark. Our class median is only 47 almost everyones failing in class.

Avoid this prof unless you are a scholar. I got top marks in english my whole life but not with him. I'm passing but over half the class is failing -he told us so! He is a harsh marker & he's rude to students! He seems surprised when someone answers a question correctly ("how the hell did you know that?!"). Seneca profs are awesome but not this one

He wrote the textbook ($80 +tax) and you have to have it for the tests! Same class, other teachers either used no text or smaller, cheaper texts. He marks extremely hard for an Accounting program Eng course and constantly insults the class. He even laughs at his own jokes when no one else does... Avoid G Engkent at all cost!

He is a very moody professor and a very hard maker. Sometimes his interaction with student is very unpleasant. If you are looking for get a good grade then he is not recommended, but if you just wants to pass his course then he is fine(only if you do homework regularly).
