Comment:
Cestaro was so great! He gave really great feedback on my essays. Although he does call on people to participate, he wants to make sure everyone is learning and getting something out of every lecture and activity. He also provides some opportunities for extra credit through the quarter! 10/10 would recommend.

There were six books assigned in this class and we read almost all entirely. Luckily you can get away with Sparknotes for almost all of them. Expect 2 papers that he will grade really hard. Lectures are very long and boring and he calls on people to answer questions. Boring at best. Tough final over very specific parts of books- short/long answer.

He's a nice and interesting guy, but his grading criteria is very unclear and there are only 2 papers and 2 tests on the books we read plus participation points so there is little room for error. my class asked if we could have an EC assignment to boost our grades but he refused and said his method was very clear, though the class disagreed

Professor Cestaro is very knowledgable and is passionate about teaching. His expectations for papers make the course moderately difficult, but you get what you give. If you're genuinely interested in the course material then he's a good choice.

Comment:
Prof. Cestaro is kind and charismatic which makes class usually entertaining. He is a really tough grader, and some of his feedback on his papers is borderline inappropriate and demeaning. He likes to call on people in class, which is the worst. There's a lot of reading, anywhere from 5+ novels and several short stories and poems.

The class was online, but he still made an effort to get to know students and foster interactions in the discussion boards. There was a lot of reading, but it was interesting for the most part.

Professor Cestaro genuinely cares about teaching. This is evident through his passion regarding the course material. However, his course is FAR too challenging for an introductory course. He is unclear with his expectations of what should be covered in papers. He is definitely tough. He seems to not want to give A's.

This is one of the hardest classes I've taken at DePaul, and it's a 100 level online course. Quizzes are online, 20% of grade, there are 2 papers and two written exams (worth 15% each I think), discussions are 20% of total grade and he expects a lot of participation on that.

Gary was an interesting professor. He tended to talk more than allowing for student discussion of the literature. It was not uncommon for him to go off on tangents. We were assigned many books and often fell behind with the class discussions. The class was often boring to sit through. Expect a final exam on all of the books. Two papers.

I am in love with professor Cestaro! I've taken three classes with him and he's awesome. If you're an Italian student: CHECK YOUR GRAMMAR. He's super tough on that in papers, but otherwise he's so into what he's teaching it's adorable and (usually) pretty interesting. He cares what his students have to say and wants you to be interested.

He was a great teacher, very willing to help, and really seemed like he wanted to make sure everyone was learning, not just skating by. He really cares about his students and still says hello and remembers me when he sees me.

I loved him. He was so kind to me and very interesting to talk with. He tends not to be very open to other opinions and can drone on. You can tell he loves his own voice. But, he was very understanding and helpful when I had to take an incomplete for personal reasons.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE GAY. It is all history based and he does not treat it like an introductory course. Hard grader and lectures are extremely dull. I got a B so its not impossible.. but avoid it if you can.

This class is NOT an easy A. There is a paper due every other week, a midterm, and cumulative final. He's a super hard grader and picks favorites in class. Unless your gay or want to minor in LGBQT studies, don't take this class.

Amazing professor. Really knows what he is talking about and vocalizes his knowledge in an incredibly educated manner. He always shares events revolving around the LGBTQ community at DePaul and really cares about the subject both in the classroom and out of the classroom. Highly recommend his class!

He's a tough grader. When he teaches it is almost like he is a drill Sargent trying to engrave Italian in your mind. I felt very dumb in his class.

The class wasn't difficult and the work load was relatively light. However, do not miss class! He does not take ANY late assignments unless you have approval from the Dean of Students. But in my case, he wouldn't accept my late work even with approval from the Dean of Students AND a Doctor's note. I will not take another class with him.
