Professor Kovacs is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. Brilliant mind for math. Very colorful life story. Great professor. Really cares that his students learn in his class. Some of the best classes I ever took at South Alabama.

A world class algebraist. Complex analysis is a thing of beauty to this guy. As it was to me when I took the course 25 years ago! You have to try & understand the art form of mathematics, not just the science.

horrible class. he just wrote stuff on the board and you couldn't read it or understand a word he said. he didn't follow the book at all, and tests were only proofs and no application was covered in class. class had a F average the whole semester. didn't learn anything, but passed the class. he grades on how well he likes you, so talk to him.

Very spirited lectures. Though some of you have mentioned he give you the test a week before and just gives grades, he doesn't anymore. He starts with a 2-minute crash course to limits, and goes into L'Hospital's rule, before evening teaching differentiation.

Was not a hard class, but I learned nothing about the subject but go a wonderful grade. He just gives grades. He is very nice and very excited about Calculus, but you can't understand him at all.

OK, he gives you the test to work on at least a week before the real test. Sometimes the test was exacxtly the same - to include numbers! Yes, he has a THICK accent, it took me at least two weeks to understand him. He is passionate about what he does and hey, some people don't like him because they don't like the subject. This guy is retired, but still teaching... He must be at least 70 years old. Hard to understand. The highest grade on our first test was a 70. Choose any teacher but him.

At first he is hard to understand, but you get use to him and he is a nice guy. He grades fair. If you show up to class, and he sees you are doing problems, he will help you out. A girl in my class made a 33 on a test, and he allowed her to do extra problems and it brought the grade up to a c.

What is it with a majority of the math department? They can't speak english at all! Couldn't understand him, stutters alot, Very unfair with grading, although he did drop a test grade when the class average was 33! Horrible teacher. Maybe scenile too!
