Comment:

I suggest taking Jane Turk. She is hilarious and if you try, you will learn so many new things you haven't learned before. This course is geared toward people who are not computer science major, so the work isn't hard but it is pretty time consuming. Just do your work and you will pass this course.

Comment:

Shes nice to an extent, Make sure if you have any accommodations between you and her, like an extension, or class absence, to get it in writing. She will often forget and the consequences fall on the students. Easy A but the class goes slow. Papers worth 50% of grade, even though she says 30% in syllabus. No tests, weekly homework.

9 point grading scale. Basically leaving you with a B if you're close to an A or leaving you with a C if you're close to a B. Somehow students up to par get the same grade as those making the bear minimum. Don't expect any plus or minuses from her, she considers it but doesn't give. 50% paper in this class.

Comment:

Dr. Turk is an excellent teacher, and ethics are one of her best subjects. She is knowledgeable on the material and enjoys it, and it shows in her lectures. You will need to earn the grade, but nothing excessive, and she will work with you to help you along every step of the way. Struggling? Just ask for help and you'll get it.

Talk about ACTIVE LEARNING. There was never a class that was wasted. She's great at developing lesson plans that really grab your attention. Class is ESSENTIAL to passing -- I can't stress that enough. Also, only 1 homework assignment a week. It usually took me 30 - 45 minutes to do and I got A's on all of them. And... NO TEXTBOOK!

Easy tests as long as you know your stuff. She is a nice lady that knows her stuff but her teachings are majority power points. Tedious labs but doesn't stress when you turn them in. Communicate with her and you're good. I had to drop her class cause I suck at programming but i'll take it again.

The lectures are pretty boring and her grading system is pretty difficult. I would try to avoid her if possible; she's not very helpful, and when she gives you something on an assignment that doesn't make sense, she is always too busy helping someone else (but everyone else is having the same problem). The CSC151 material is pretty easy though.

Her lectures are very boring because its a typical computer class word, excel, etc. Then she gives pointless assignments on creating passwords, credit card theft. Just do the work and attend class, because she takes attendance. If you do that you will get an A.

Probably one of the worst teachers I've had. She hardly knows anything about Java, and is slow as hell at teaching it. I feel my self getting as old as she is when she tries to explain stuff. On several occasions she's said I was wrong, then repeated what I said to her as the "right" answer. Directions are lousy. Avoid her at all costs.

This was the most interesting class i have ever taken. I am not even a comoputer science major. She is very nice and extremely helpful. The whole class was informative and different than the usual listen to the teacher and take notes thing. It made me fall asleep a couple of times but it is an easy a if you do all the work and attend EVERY class.

Spent the entire semester making fun of her throughout each class. Really doesn't know anything about new technologies. This entire course was based around credit card theft. Gave uninteresting assignments, like writing papers and putting them into a wiki. Really, really pointless.

A bit soft-spoken and monotone. Sometimes her lectures can be dreary and tiring, but most of the time it's about relevant material to current issues in technology. Topics are interesting and homework is important. Make sure you turn in ALL assignments, papers, labs, etc. Participate, turn everything in, and its an easy A.

Very good teacher. lectures are long but interesting. If class requires papers ti be written she will take you step by step through the whole process. She always remembers her former students and always stops to say Hi. very recommended

She always teaches the whole class, even if there's only 2 minutes left, she'll intro. something new. I thought her directions were a little unclear on some of the labs. Half open book tests, make sure to know exact definitions for the closed book part. She helped during labs but not really helpful during office hours. I was a little disappointed with that. A nice teacher but I'm not sure if I would take her again. On the higher end of the scale of La Salle teachers.

Turk is very nice and very willing to help students inside and outside of class. She wants everyone to do well. She always lectures the entire period. She tells you exactly what to study for her tests and half of each test is open book.

Very helpful inside and outside of class. The final can replace the lowest test score if it helps. Labs are graded easily. Grades can go from B to A on the final very easily
