I've had Jan for a lot of classes. She's genuinely interested in the subject matter which makes classes all the more fun. Class discussions in her class are great due to the fact that she cultivates a laid back atmosphere. She is genuinely interested in students' input and keeps class interesting and fun. A truly unique, open-minded thinker.

Although at times she could be a little unclear and all over the place she actually was a good professor. The class was pretty easy, I hardly ever read the book. There weren't very many points to receive so doing well on all assignments was kind of crucial

Everyone did terrible on her first two exams and she doesnt care to give a curve at all. The exams have nothing to do with her lecture. Gave a group "Hope project" this quarter for 40% of your grade. So stupid and a waste of time. I suggest taking someone else.

i don't understand why jan is getting such a bad rap, either. i've taken her for two sociology courses and wouldn't mind taking her again. while she tends to often go off on tangents, it's nice to walk into at least one class a quarter knowing it's going to be a laidback atmosphere.

So I'm not sure why Jan's been getting such bad reviews; maybe SOC141 is a bad class for her? I've actually had her for other sections than this one & I've always thought she's an amazing teacher. She can be a little weird but she's a lot of fun & has really interesting views. And her life stories are usually relevant.. I learned a lot from her.

Run! Lecture and exams Qs are incomprehensible, grading is sketchy. Rather than taking the subject seriously, she sees the course as an opportunity to preach the gospel of "the world is out to get you if you're different." She told us some things that I'm absolutely certain aren't true, but were drawn from that assumption. Ruined the subject.

Run while you can. She's a horrible teacher, and makes her TA do all of the work. She rambles about herself all of class and when the exam comes out, you have no clue what to expect, and she'll blame you for your grade. You won't learn ANYTHING, except about Jan's personal life and all of her "amazing" accomplishments. Take another professor.

She is a worthless teacher... I Could teach the class better than she could even dream of... Going to class is the biggest waste of time, You are better of just teaching the class to yourself... I recommend buying the book New because there are online pretests that will help you.. Worst professor at teaching!

She is Crazy. She just blurts out stuff that is pointless and makes you want to leave the room immediately. Going to class was mandatory and pointless. Her lectures and powerpoints were never on the tests. Easily distracted and never stays on topic. Im sure she's a nice person when she's not teaching Sociology.

she is very nice, but the everyday class is just looking at powerpoints which does not help for the tests. the tests are soley off of the book which you must cover on your own time. easy A if you spend time with the book.

I had her for Sociology and i really liked her alot. there were a lot of extra credit opportunities for book reviews and on the tests. the tests were fairly simple, it was basically sentences from the book. my advice is to read the book and dont really pay attn to the powerpoints, im usually a slacker and managed an A-

This class is pointless. The project is worth 40% of grade, but the project doesn't even make sense. It is ridiculous. Also, her tests are hard and the only reason I go to class is because she sometimes takes attedance grades, but other than that the power points she presents in class don't help on the tests, they are always hard !

I agree with others, Bending is VERY scattered and often gets very far off topic and people took advantage of that so we didn't learn much from her. She however, will help you with whatever you need and is a very sweet woman. I took her intro to soc. class, it was by far one of the easiest classes I have had. Exams were cake.

I've had her for a few classes now and she's absolutely great. Her classes are interesting, assignments are fun, and nothing's too difficult. She likes take-home and open notes tests, too, which is nice.

Jan Bending is a nice teacher. She's relaxed, cheerful, and her class was very easy for me. I passed with an A. Attendence was not mandatory and I missed a lot of classes. If you just read the textbook (which was a really awesome text, by the way) you'll ace all the tests easily. They're simple multiple choice tests, how much easier can it get?
