So. I was at the point in this class that I was ready to sacrifice my first born to even get a 70 on a test. It is VERY VERY HARD. You cannot miss a class. You cannot miss an assignment. The tests are INCREDIBLY hard. 1. you must see her during office hours. 2. Get her tutor, he was awesome. 3. put 100% into HW assignments. 4. TAKE NOTES! LOTS

Comment:

Love her as a lecturer, better than most. But her grading is out of this world flawed. Looks like most students have to take the class twice. If most students fail this class, whose fault is it? The students or the teacher? Beware of the exams, because you'll spend 99% of your time doing labs but what will really screw you up are the tests.

She's a really tough grader, and really nit-picky in grading labs/homeworks. Two exams, and a final. She's notorious among CS students. I heard she may be teaching CSI 404. I'm trying my best to avoid taking another course with her. AVOID!

Ridiculously tough grader. 75% of the grade was based on 3 tests. That's insane. Also found the teacher annoying, calling on student in lecture who clearly don't want to answer the questions shes asking, either because they don't know or because they're unsure. Already passing400-500 level classes but stuck on this one because of her grading style.

She will take her time going through this course, but if your a beginner in computer science, go to the tutoring center. Ask questions if you don't get it immediately. Tough class, but just start doing questions from the book if you want to pass. Has office hours, but is not very explanatory about the topics. Hard class in general.

Dr. O'Rourke is hands down one of the best Professors I have had. Very outgoing and always there for you- to help whenever you need it. I learned a lot in her class, even though I'm not a CSC major. She always includes EVERYONE to participate and NEVER just sits at a podium. I wish there were more professors like her! Always has a smile too!

I had her class freshman year. She is very funny! The only problem is that she doesn't prepare her lectures. She writes on the board and repeats what she is writing word by word. She is really tough when it comes to grading her homework, but her tests are easy. She doesn't care about attendance. All you need is to pass her tests!

Took two classes with Dr. O'Rourke at UAlbany. I love her, she is extremely helpful and entertaining. Some lectures were dry and seemed a bit too detail oriented (I wish she would use electronic notes!), but overall she is great. Tough grader, no late assignments or curving. Do your work and study and you will get a B or above.

I thought she was funny. I took intro to programming. It was something I'd never done before and she explained everything well although it was challenging. You're allowed to work in groups. She's always more than happy to help you, I went to her office hours more than once to get help. She's very knowledgable.

If your doing everything you should be, she is always more than happy to help you. If you sleep during class than ask for help she loves to make fun of you. That being said she has a great sense of humor and I definitely enjoy her class.

She's okay. She's very boring, and a VERY hard grader. I tried real hard in her class and I still got a C+. The one positive thing I will say is though, is that she's always willing to help.
