This was one of the few classes I actually enjoyed at UCR. There's quite a bit of reading assigned weekly, but it's doable. As long as you read before the exams and attend lecture it's very easy to get an A in the course. Two exams account for a huge majority of your grade, the rest being short papers (1-1.5 pages) you turn in weekly on readings.

Professor Pyke is by far the best professor I've ever had. She is extremely knowledgable and passionate in what she teaches. A lot of reading, and essay format midterms and final. Readings and lectures are interesting, if you attend lecture, which is once a week, you'll get an A! definitely recommend taking one her classes, great professor!

I love Pyke! Lectures are 3 hours because they are once a week, but she makes them so interesting. She randomly takes attendance in lecture sometimes. Slides are posted online once the midterm is near. Lots of readings, but they are interesting for the most part. She pulls questions from the study guide for the tests.

2 take home midterms based on the readings and lectures. The last one is an exam. All non cumulative. As long as you do the readings and go to lecture should solid.

Her class is very heavy on the readings and her lectures. She has two tests and a final and you finish in week 10. The tests are all essay style. She's very helpful and knowledgeable about what she teaches.

Karen Pyke is GREAT; she is easy to understand. And there are no textbooks except, for a small book you must read. I bought mine at Amazon for $5. Attendance is mandatory and there is quite a bit of reading. There are 2 midterms and a final, but they are easy! And there are weekly papers due based on the readings but there are no grades for it.

Out of my three SOC classes this quarter, this is my only interesting one. Be warned though, this teacher is a staunch feminist at least in her theoretical perspectives about Sociology. However, after some students ask her personal questions, you realize that she is actually pretty down to Earth and nice and not a crazy feminist activist.

She talks a lot, her tests are confusing. But she gives you a list on "possible essay questions" and two of them appear on the tests.. Easy class.

she likes to talk. she doesnt put her notes or slides up online bc she doesnt want anyone to "steal her ideas." 2 midterms, no final, an interview and 2 pages papers due every dis. overall not a bad class, there were moments that i wouldve rather spent my time doing something else and she would tend to put me to sleep.

So far, the best Soc. Professor I've had at UCR. Esp. with Asian Americans, this woman knows her stuff! Started posting study guides up this quarter and as long as you do the readings (know the main points-even through skimming) and or going to office hours, you're good to go. Very interesting class. Learned a LOT.
