Loved him as a person, really nice guy. But not my favorite professor. The theology department's grading scale is already wack, but he makes it so hard to get a good grade. There are like 3 grades and they're all tests that are extremely specific to the reading so pay attention when you read and take loooong notes. Notes in class is hella important

Father Overberg is nice and very enthusiastic about theology (obviously). However, his test aren't the best. He's a tough grader and seems to what you to read his mind for some of the answers. My suggestion is to take really good notes and you'll be fine.

Father Overberg was the best! Go in with an open mind and really try to understand where he's coming from. Also, it's not hard to get an A--the readings are easy, and just study the chapters in the book before the tests and take good notes in class and you're golden. This is the class I'll miss the most next semester!

Nice guy; only reading for homework, usually under 10 pages; few tests, you have to study for them and pay attention in class; every class he calls on random people and asks about the reading; even if you did it you probably won't get the answer right though because he's a perpetual fill-in-the-blank and you have to guess exactly what he's thinking

Some don't like the way he looks at the bible, but I found Father O to be very insightful. He made you look at the bible in such an interesting way. You have to be able to accept other viewpoints no madder how bizarre they may seem. He won't shove religion down your throat, but give you a new view of how to read the bible.

Very good course and nice professor. He is good at presenting all sides of an issue, and always prompts you to think critically rather than just write what Catholicism teaches without saying why (which will get you a bad grade). He tells you clearly what he wants you to do and how, so if you get a bad grade, it's entirely your own fault.

Taking Fr. O's class was the best decision I made this semester! Not only were the tests easy, but he is definitely an amazing man who really cares about his students. He is pretty liberal and has different views that I had never heard before but still a great class! Take Fr. O!!

I had never taken a Theology class, but Fr. Overberg made it awesome! He got to know the students and promoted discussion! The class may not be for everyone though because it directly challenges a lot of traditional Christian beliefs. I personally loved that aspect of the class, but if you think you won't, consider another professor.

I LOVE FATHER OVERBERG. HE IS NOT THE MOST EXCITING TEACHER IN THE WORLD, AS HIS CLASSES ARE MOSTLY LECTURE. BUT I REALLY ENJOY HIM AND THE CLASS. IT'S SO REFRESHING TO HAVE A MORE LIBERAL-MINDED PROFESSOR. ALSO, THERE IS NO HOMEWORK. JUST EASY TESTS :) I WOULDN'T SUGGEST TAKING HIM IF YOU BELIEVE EVERYTHING IN THE BIBLE IS TRUE....BECAUSE HE

Things I like: 1) He challenges people's views of Christianity for the better. 2) Roots & Branches book interesting. Things I don't like: 1) Tests all short answer/essay and if you don't explain it EXACT definition it's about 60-70% right. 2) I met with him after tests and understood stuf perfect but worded wrong. Multiple choice I would have an A.

Fr. Overberg is AMAZING. He challenges some people's long-standing beliefs, but he provides clear, honest, and truthful teachings. The best teacher I've had at Xavier so far. Open to helping students...you have to study for tests, but if you work hard at memorizing concepts, an A is not hard.

Fr. Overberg does not win everyone's approval...probably because a) he challenges long-standing church teaching, b) he asks students to be open-minded and c) he doesn't just hand out A's. If you let these points bother you, though, you will miss out on Xavier's best professor. Hands down. Let him shake you up a bit, and you'll never regret it.

People either love or hate Fr. Overberg. Personally, I loved him. He is such a great guy, even though he's pretty liberal. He's so down-to-earth, which a lot of priests aren't. I've been in Catholic schools for 12 and a half years, and this is the first time I've heard a lot of the stuff he said. It's awesome. TAKE FR. OVERBERG!!

I would take this class because he has a very interesting perspective on the Catholic faith. There is no homework, one presentation, and three tests. He tells you what will be on the tests and they are pretty thorough. If you're super religious and do not like to hear others' point of view then you probably won't like him.

Fr. Overberg is the coolest guy ever--he's a little liberal, but provides a lot of new perspectives on the Catholic faith. Not much homework and the tests are usually predictable, but still very thorough. I learned a lot in this class and would definitely take him again. Overberg is a must-take.

If you want to learn about the Catholic faith this is not a class for you. His "opinions" have greater weight than actual church teaching. By using his own book, you are assured not to get any other pespectives.
