Really cares about people and his students. Helps you understand chemistry and relates it to everyday life and careers. As a former student I still pull out his lab books for other classes.

Firstly, the lab book is a must for this class, the big heavy textbook is not really necessary, and the pink workbook do not buy Dr. Gratton will have printed copies of the notes and work materials in class. There are 6 tests including the final and two short essays over chemicals. He only teachers one class in the fall semester but it's worth it.

Thus was my third attempt at chemistry, once in high school, once in general chemistry 4 years ago and now for principles of chem. Dr. Gratton was always available, kept on topic and cared about the student's success. Highly recommended! If you read this Dr. Gratton, thank you for your help.

I had Dr. Gratton in 1977. At that time, he was well organized and quite helpful. His notes were very useful and easily understood. I have drawn from my comfort in chemistry, which he helped inspire, professionally as an Environmental Engineer for nearly 30 years. Listen well and do your work and you will have a solid understanding of chemistry

They either love him or hate him. I don't understand. Know him from couple of semesters ago. HE'S great to everyone. Knows his stuff. Is helpful. Makes chem fun. But you must study. He can't do everything for you. I liked the 'welcome to college' others have written.

Where did the negative comments come from? He's great. Treats everyone with respect. Helps outside of class. Wants everyone to succeed even if he knows you don't study.

He is a hard teacher. He assumes that people don't study even when I studied for tests and quizzes. He has good unit books to study from but his multiple choice questions are hard and tricky. FOREIGN STUDENTS DO NOT TAKE HIM. He doesn't know how to deal with them. He treats them like they are from another planet...

I hated him at first, but he grew on me. He is usually entertaining, and makes you work for your grade. Slack off, or don't follow his instructions and you might as well drop. Knows his stuff and will help you. TESTS HAVE TRICK MULTIPLE CHOICE questions. This was the hardest class I ever took, and the one I am most proud to say I got and A in.

Dr. Gratton was one of the best teachers I have had at Jccc. He was very helpful and wanted everyone to succeed. He is very intelligent. Chemistry is not supposed to be easy...so be prepared to work and not to slack off. If you do what he tells you to do you will do excellent. The exams are very fair and follow what he teaches. Take him!!!!!
