His course is very friendly to newbies. I have studied Python with him and I would like to study C++ with him in the next quarter.

hands down one of the hardest classes to take as a freshman. if you don't know c++ well, then PLEASE start with cs010 do NOT jump right into this class unless you're ready to put all your time and energy into it. Lab's and tests are difficult. All I can say is good luck, hope you dont have too many mental breakdowns

The lectures are a pretty important part of the class as he goes further in depth in them and expands on the topics you read about. Keeping this in mind, it is also imperative that the online textbook is read and the programming assignments and labs are done on your own as if you work with others often times you don't learn the lessons you need to.

Dude is straightforward, hell repeat important concepts in lecture and tell you to focus on them for the exam. Also, there are lots of programming assignments that can be a pain but ultimately help you grow. If youre really struggling, go to office hours. TAs/Kris will help a lot.

I loved Dr. Miller as a person, however as a professor, he lacked in many areas. The final is heavily weighted, however capping a grade at a C- because someone does not get higher than a 70% on the final is absolute anarchy.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR! Kris is a nice guy, but he barely teaches anything and expects us to teach ourselves. I went to the ARC a lot, yet, prior to the final I had a B- and then after the final my grade dropped to a D because he puts so much weight on the final. Good Luck is all I can say. Paid $65 for the HW to not pass a class.

Kris Miller is a good professor who does a good job of expecting his students to read the material and the lecture is to build on what you should have already learned. Good at explaining concepts in class, and those concepts are often the free-response questions on exams. Like any CS class, the Final is heavily weighted. So study the material well

I had cs12 with Miller and the class itself is pretty challenging and comes with a lot of work (a program assignment pretty much every week along with reading and labs), but I thought Miller did a great job of explaining the material and preparing you for the assignments and tests.

Miller is the most straightforward CS lecturer at UCR, since that is his actual main job - he does no research. His classes are fairly easy as long as you put in effort to understand the content, as a lot of it is cumulative knowledge. Those who do not follow tend to have a hard time catching up.

Comment:
CS14 is a tough class regardless of professors as the subject tends to be very dense. However, Miller is the best choice at the moment for students who are taking CS14 in my personal opinion as I have heard/know more students who failed with the other professor. Be prepared to put in countless hours into studying/programming

Professor Miller was a great professor back in CS010. Over the quarters, he seemed to have lost motivation to teach. At times he can be extremely thorough with his lectures. He speaks extremely fast and does not attempt to simplify his explanations. His programs are relatively hard, but it teaches you how to think it terms of a computer scientist.

Comment:
Took the class for CS012, and he's really good at explaining certain algorithms/data structures, so as long as you pay attention, take notes, and PRACTICE CODING, then you'll be fine in this class. Take note that you have to pass the final with at least a C, otherwise, you'll fail the class. I didn't get an A, but I passed; that's all that matters.

The class is designed to weed people out so the class is tough. But, Miller is very thorough and will answer any questions you have during class. There is a lot of homework so the class will take up a lot of time. Just study for the final because if you get below a C- on the final you are capped at a C- in the class and can't move on to CS 14.

Professor Miller is a great professor. I mean he is one of the greatest at UCR. He is really engaging and his use of words aren't confusing. He's is straight the point, very practical. IDEALLY you want him for all your CS class (I had him for CS 10, 12, and 14) and I genuinely enjoyed every class.

Great and lenient CS professor. He is clear during the lectures. During the hard parts of the lecture, he can explain the parts in detail. The final is a pass or fail thing. So if you fail the final (73%) yet you have a high-A in the class, you still fail the class. If you pass the final, yet you have 73% in the class, you fail too.

Great professor. Was able to clearly explain all of the material despite it being in an online class. He encourages you to ask any questions and cares alot about his students succeeding. If you are looking to take the online version of this class make sure Miller is teaching it. Class is fairly difficult but just work hard and go to office hours

This class is extremely easy if you just keep up with the material. Miller is an excellent professor. Only advice I could give is to make sure that the work you submit isn't someone else's, he will find out!

Okay first off, about a third of the class failed the midterm and probably dropped out. The midterm wasn't hard at all. I guess it true, CS isn't for everyone. Okay, Miller is an amazing teacher. Office hours are remarkable useful and boy were the labs and assignment are incredibly fun. Let just say that I had a "lit af" experience. ;) Thumbs up!!!

Boy this was one tough class, but I learned a lot about c++. Professor Kris Miller is an excellent teacher that honestly wants you to understand the materials and wants you to ask questions no matter how minor they are. Overall, be prepared for a heavy workload with tons of programming homework, labs, activities, etc. Study hard for his class!
