Stuck well to the writing theme of the class and used relevant articles and writing lessons that genuinely improve your analytical writing. She uses a grading contract to make sure that ESL students can at least earn a B from meeting the minimum criteria for each assignment. You MUST excel in your writing assignments in order to earn an A.

Get ready to do a lot of typing and peer review. The default grade you will get is a B, so you will have to go above and beyond to earn an A in her class. You will have assignments due 2-3 times a week, and you will constantly be building on your ePortfolio every week. The assignments, however, were very interesting for me, and they made me think.

Prof Delany-Ullman made 39B very interesting. She provides positive feedback for drafts and will give you great the critique one-on-one if you go to office hours. Yes, there are a lot of assignments, but if you're not afraid of hard work, you will find that all of them are extremely manageable. Learn to manage your time and you will do fine.

Professor Lorene is very clear in regards to what she expects in class. However, it's NOT an easy A. You have assignments almost every day, and are expected to complete a RIP project Pleasing her was difficult because she has very strict criteria when grading. All writing classes are difficult, so don't take this class with other heavy classes.

She is a very caring professor (she brought us cake on the last day of class)! She requires a few meetings outside of class. She is good at explaining concepts and is a very inspirational writer/professor. Her grading is fair and assigns interesting readings. Alot of group work in class. Alot of busy work on Canvas (as for any other writing class)

Professor Delany-Ullman gives a lot of work, but its to help you for the midterm ePortfolio and the final RIP project! Those two projects are your entire grade. I took her when the theme was race, literacy, and power. The works were interesting and made you think! Take advantage of the conference and office hours! She is there to help you succeed.

Professor Delany-Ullman is a very tough grader. She focuses only on grading criteria and doesn't pay attention to the student's efforts. She has hard character and is not helpful enough. Take her on your own risk

Her class was extremely hard and no matter what I did to improve my essays based off her comments, I would receive low scores. One time she my group a thesis to use in our presentation and once we presented it she said it wasn't "deep enough" because she forgot it was her own thesis. It is almost like she enjoys giving her students bad grades.

If you want to become the best writer that you can be, choose Delany-Ullman. If you want a free A and put in minimal effort, you will fail this class. She wants the absolute best for her students and is very open and personable. However, having hours on end of homework in her class consistently was very taxing. Take her class at your own risk.

Don't take her if you hope to get an A in the class. This is by far the hardest class I have taken at UCI. She stated that she has had many courses without any student receiving an A. If you are like to write at least 5x the other writing classes then take her class, but otherwise DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

She is a great writing professor, but beware of her constructive criticism. On my RA essay, there were so many comments that were actually a bit harsh! Take them seriously because they're actually helpful. Also, she tends to have her own rubric for grading assignments. Go to her office hours if you need help! A B+ or A is doable!

Wow...I have a job and a sport, but I believe it's this class that worked me the hardest. Incredibly long hours and efforts are required if you even want to consider getting at least B. Without a doubt, this class is the most work-heavy I've ever had. Luckily she's very sweet, helpful, and lectures well. Your writing will most certainly improve.

Very difficult teacher. Her expectations for many of her first year students are too strict, especially for one of the first writing classes at this school. She leaves feedback on each and every paper which does help to some extent. There's a mandatory conference near the end of the quarter. Not that helpful, answered my questions with a question.

She is one of the hardest grader I have ever had as a teacher. There are also many assignments that are incorporated into our final grade. If you are taking another class that is also work intensive, maybe don't take her class. But at the end, the work she gave very well prepared us for further writing in the future. She's a great teacher.

She is a tough grader and the comments she gives back is harsh. But she is very clear about what she wants and she helps you improve your writing a lot. It does hurt to get comments back and she basically tear your writing apart, but she does take her time out to help you. Go to her office hour and spend time on editing.

Very difficult teacher who is a very hard grader. Worst professor I had at UCI so far and I'm an engineer.. She dropped my grade one letter right before grades were posted on transcript. I don't recommend her at all any other writing professor would be better. She even made me rewrite my essay the way she wants it and still have me a bad grade.
