If you need help from her expect her to laugh in your face. Very disrespectful, initially I was interested and engaging in the class but her attitude after the midterm was horrendous. She had two class favorites, which is sad. Don't let her soft crying during her presentations or guest speakers on the Navajo or Native reserves fool you! All an act.

Comment:

Lynne is really a sweet and nice lady. The only problem with this particular class is that about 75% of your grade depends on GROUP WORK. This was very problematic, especially when 1/2 my group dropped the class, and the other 1/2 was unreliable. Lynne understood, but STILL. Her grading is easy (not SUPER easy, though), but her lectures are dull.

She's a sweet lady, but her lecture style NEEDS altering. She puts a "Coles Notes" version of her lecture on the overhead & elaborates, but she goes so fast that it's hard to catch every point. I don't feel like I really learned anything of value in her class, but her grading is fairly easy. I wouldn't recommend her, but I also wouldn't avoid her

Comment:

Professor Phillips is very enthusiastic about cultural anthropology and really provides a lot of insight on the subject. She sets up the course in a great way to see how anthropology can be applied in the real world (IE: poster conference, research paper, etc.) She is very helpful and seems to really care about her students. Fair marker too.

She didn't seem to understand qualitative methods herself and so we weren't sure why she was teaching the course. Just a horrid teacher and so pollyannish it was both laughable and sickening at the same time.

Most pointless class ever. She wasn't helpful, she was just as clueless as we were, and she grades you on your personality rather than your course work. She needs to get a grip on reality and realize that her job is to teach and grade her students fairly, not make personal judgements about their character. Very rude woman...hateful even.
