Mary did an amazing job explaining all the articles in the class and making sure we really understood them. She is not only a great teacher but an amazing person who cares about her students well beings. There are a lot of readings, but honestly you don't have to do them all. Tests were really easy, she prepares you well for them.

12 quizzes, credit/no credit final paper, and an optional final make up your grade so quizzes really count. Lots of reading but I never bought the book and got an A. She goes over the readings IN DETAIL so show up to class. Sweetest woman ever, and very funny. Was late quite a few times and canceled class too. Can be a bit slow, but usually great!

This professor is honestly one of the few who restore my faith in humanity daily. She is caring and well respected, but she doesn't take her experience as power, she treats you fairly and pushes you to do your best. Is very understanding and conscious of trigger warnings and heavy material. She also brings free coffee for her students. None better!

Her lectures are VERY dry. When your class is at 7:30 in the morning, I would try to engage students more. Only a couple tests and papers almost weekly. She takes attendance so make sure you show up, but if you don't like listening to a dry lecture for almost two hours, don't take her class. It's also a very dark class. A lot on rape, abuse, etc.

Very nice professor, easy class, there are short 10 question quizzes every week, and she drops the worst two, plus they are so easy. Go to class because she brings up stuff for the quizzes not in the reading. The readings are really short and easy. 1 paper, and 1 optional paper.

Phil of sex and love was not the class anyone thought it would be. It covers historical articles up to present on rape, abortion, same sex rights, etc. Mary's lectures tend to be a bit all over the place, but she is very helpful and will clarify if you ask. Pretty easy grader, just make sure to read the material and follow instructions.

Phil of sex and love was heavey material. She is an excellent proffesor, but a tough grader. Her classes are always enjoyable this is my second one with her! I wished we talked more about love as a positive concept. Overall great class. Not to much work weekly quizes and two essays. Do the reading and be willing to discuss and you'll do great!

This woman is brilliant. She truly loves philosophy, and it shows. Come to class and your mind will be blown; she explains any questions very clearly and is a friendly, funny woman. TAKE ANY CLASS FROM HER! TAKE IT! NOW! (seriously she is a very amazing professor, hands down the best one I had at HSU)

Very nice lady. Really understands what its like to be a college student. If your sick or something comes up just talk to her she will always let you make things up. Super simple papers only two. Quizzes at least once a week but you go over them in class before you take them.

Not much room for interpretation of the texts. You will be expected to read a lot very quickly. Essays are expected to be impersonal and free of speculation. I didn't consider her to be of much interest personally.. Quite boring actually. Her answers to questions are short and sharp. Nooo thanks :P

Dr. Bockover is amazing! Not only does she have an impecable grasp of the concepts of philosopy covered, but she makes it engaging. I wanted to go to class every morning and this class was at 9:30am. Also, in a subject matter that could easily allow one to show their biases, Dr. Bockover remained unflinchingly impartial.

I wasn't sure if I would like her at first, because she was so intense, but I found that after a few classes it was refreshing to see that she enjoyed teaching the subject so much. She really wants to make sure you understand what she is talking about, and asks often. I find that she is very open to getting input on a subject.

i was really disapointed by her, i gained no insight and felt like i was paying to get yelled at every morning. she holds her knowledge superior to students, and i was constantly reminded that this subject was to deep for me to understand. questiones were met with unsatisfying and unclear answers, stay away!

Funny thing--I can bet who wrote the review from 9/1. Has an ego quite big enough for the classroom himself. Mary is very interesting and intense and has a deep passion for Asian philosophy. At times she can be a little too black-&-white, but you can take some of that to task in your papers after you show that you know what you're talking about.
