Comment:

Online Human Geography course. Second time taking Debra Sharkey. Similar review. Great professor, really knows her stuff, passionate about the subject, expects students to actually learn and work for it. A lot of reading, no textbook, lectures are clear cut. Assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams have a clear rubric. Workload is large, but fair.

Comment:

This is the worst class that I took in all my training time, and I have a huge experience in this. Ruder than a teacher, who allows disgusting communication with students, I have not met. She is biased and haughty towards her students. Never again would like to even meet her. I'm just disappointed.

Comment:

The worst experience I have ever had with an online professor. Not only does she require you to take notes on 3+ hours of context a week, but she expects you to turn in assignments randomly. One week it is due Thursday, next it is due Saturday. Inconsistent, slow with feedback, weird assignments and weird grade, worst class ever. DONT TAKE HER!!!!

So my first instructor named Debra Sharkey who I chose for Physical Geography, she wasn't following my accommodations that I was given from Disability Services in college. She made me wait outside of her class to take my test as a DSPS student. I would not choose her. I got switched to another instructor where I'm now passing. No (W) on my record.

There's a lot of reading, info & hw. Gives good feedback to help you with your work. 1 major paper due. You do learn interesting things during the course. Tests are hard if you don't read assignments and watch/listen to the lectures, but easy if you do. She's very knowledgeable about what she teaches.

Sharkey is one of the best professors at the CRC campus. She's incredibly passionate about her field of study and it becomes contagious - she really tries to get her students involved. A lot of assignments and studying is required for the class (but really, what class isn't). Don't expect an easy A here. Exams are fair. If you study, you'll be fine

Im usually an A/B student. This was the most nightmarish class Ive ever taken. She doesnt grade anything in a timely manner, exams are way too hard and her grading criteria is obnoxious. She is very knowledgeable, but treats all students like geography majors and expects us to be on her level at all times. Avoid unless youre a geography major.

One of the worst online classes I have ever taken. Not clear on what she wants and shes a super tough grader. I had to have the maps we need shipped to me bc I don't live in sac and she wouldn't extend the due date, I even offered to hand draw everything. my maps came a day after they were due and she wouldn't let me turn them in.

She's a very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teach. Her classes are inspiring, try to take her class if you're interested in geography or environmental field. This is not an easy class if you just want it for GE, you need to attend every class and study hard in order to do well.

READ THIS!!! She does give out a TON of work, but she's an amazing teacher. I recommend NOT taking this course for your GE unless you want the challenge. I'm not finished with the semester yet, but I'm pretty much bound to finish with an A or B. If you're like me and wanted the challenge, do the work. Don't let it pile up and it's an easy A or B.

Professor Sharkey is truly a gem. She is passionate about her teaching. I loved hearing her stories of her travels and how it related to the topic we were learning. If you respect her she will respect you. No CELL PHONE use in class. Don't talk. Be courteous to her. She is very nice and willing to help if you need it. Great professor.

Super hard class, don't show 10 seconds late, she hates when anyone is late. Test are super hard also and she's a tough grader. But she's knows her stuff and shares it through her experience

Prof Sharkey is awesome. She's got passion and real life experience in her subject and it shows. Lectures are super engaging with props, visuals, photos she's taken in her travels, etc. She always goes over tests and quizzes with the class. Two things you don't want to do is come in late or let her catch you on your phone, she will call you out

Professor Sharkey treats you like a college student, not a little kid. If you put in a little study time you will do well. She is very knowledgeable and experienced in her field and it shows. Previous reviewers were clearly just looking for an easy A. I've taken 3 classes with this professor, definitely recommend.

I'm shocked by all of the negative feedback. Yes, Sharkey is tough. Yes, her class is difficult. But she is a prime example of an educator who cares about her students, and she loves her profession. She has tutoring, numerous resources and gave weekly updates through canvas with study tools. You need to WORK for your A. It won't be handed to you.

This professor is a nightmare. Brash attitude makes the room uneasy. Goes through content quickly, and will reprimand the entire class when we do not know the answer to her questions. Gave rude feedback on my final project that was turned in late due to internet. After trying to appeal, I basically got "too bad, its still late"

Sharkey is one of the worst teachers I've had at CRC. She has the assumption that every student is as knowledgeable about climate change as she is. The expensive course material required also didn't do any favors. Midterm and final scores were so bad she gave the class extra points and the class still had failing scores. Stay away.

HARDEST CLASS EVER! You wont pass unless this is your only class your taking. Its introduction to geography but she expects you to have the same knowledge she has. She expect you to be there everyday because attendance is worth points but then she doesnt even take daily role, so you can get an absence even though you were there.

Mrs. Sharkey is eccentric to say the least. She gets very excited about what she teaches but that's a gift and a curse. She doesn't do a great job of explaining complex things like insolation receipt. This class is by no means easy. Always show up and make sure to do some reading. She also has an ego but you can ignore it. Study and read for an A!
