Best teacher I have ever had, so sad he is retiring this year but glad to be in his last class. A truly great living artist. everything is "in the document I gave you". Havent touched my txtbook in two years. I love him and will miss hearing his expertise and enthusiastic opinions. Everyone attend his shows around the area!

So enthusiastic about what he is teaching. although the class is quite boring if youre not really interested in it, but even if you aren’t its easy to pass. 2 tests, midterm and final and the study sheets he gives out are the test verbatim. Big on attendance because its a lot of his grade and your allowed to give in as much extra credit as you want

legend, gives extra credit, attendance important-tip-seat in the front so he remembers you faster, take notes, showup to class, dont use ur phone during class or he will call you out on it, loves lecturing on art, class trips were extra credit, like his style of teaching, art papers are extra credit, so take advantage of it, show him you put effort

His class was THE most fascinating class at Mercer. I've never met anyone who can talk which such enthusiasm about some dot on Picasso's or whosever painting. He also tells interesting and funny stories about the painters and if you take notes and pay attention in the class you have an easy A+

This man is a freaking walking encyclopedia, the amount of stuff he knows is just incredible. As much as I hate to say this his class can be very boring if you're not completely passionate about the subject. Just show up and study for the midterm and final and you'll get an A

Mel Leipzig is the only painting professor I remember with clarity after over 30 years of being out of school. he was instrumental in my transferring to art school. I only wish I'd had more guts to continue the application process to his alma mater, Cooper Union.

Mel is great....he's a nice guy, knows this stuff is hard so he helps u out the best he can. I had him for History of Art I and now I have him for History Of Modern Art, he's a funny professor. Makes the class as fun as possible though it's hard to stay awake.

Great, off the wall professor. A classic, at best. His humorous jokes compliment his passion for art, and is quite informative if you keep up with him. It seems dull at a few points, but the study guides provided are pretty much the exams. Mostly multiple choice, and easily discernable wrong answers.

this guy is HILARIOUS!!! yells at people for cell phones and talking. points at people with his laser during slides. his tests are archaic, they are so old that they are done on a typewriter..and they are tough because he barely teaches art, mostly history. DONT BUY THE BOOK!!i spent $120 and never opened it!! otherwise,funny and interesting teache

What can I say about Mel...he's basically a MCCC legend. You'll never find a guy more passionate and enthusiastic about art, and boy does he know his stuff!
