Comment:

I had Professor Shumaker for for Chem 111. I don't have a strong chemistry background but taking her class was my turning point. She wrote out the problem step by step. She is Intelligent and explains thoroughly for us to understand. Online lectures are help. She gave work sheets out and on tests bonus points for showing work. She is very helpful.

Comment:

I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Hockman. She gives out extra credit and is lenient when it comes to grading. She drops your 2 lowest quizzes 3 lowest homeworks, lowest exam. The first 3 quizzes and 2 exams can be retaken also, so if you're failing, you're not doing the wok. Plus, we didn't have to purchase a textbook, she posted it on BB.

She is a great professor!!!! I had her for chem 1 and chem 2, pay attention and do the practice problems. The only way you will master the skills is if you practice. She is very organized and her grading scale is more than fair. Put in the time and effort and you will do great! If you need help ask, she will always help you!!!

Comment:

Many students do not like her because she gives a lot of assignments. Initially the class was flipped mastery style and people took advantage. I appreciate her willingness to help and if you go to her she is there for you. Her class is not easy but if you put in a lot of time you will do well.

she was hands down the absolute best professor i've ever had!! i went to allegheny for my first two years, and HATED chemistry until she came along! she is eager and intelligent and the manuel is fabulous for class. she designed it herself and it is very helpful. i look forward to having her again in the upper level!

Uhhh,where do I start! First of all, I dreaded coming to this class! She would complain the first 10 minutes of every lecture on how we "are so behind" compared to other school and that we should've learned this in high school! She also would encourage us to "withdrawal" from her class! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!!Glad the semester is over!!!

I have had Shu for two semesters and she is just absolutely wonderful. She teaches in a way that makes chem easy. Also, the manual goes right along with the lecture so if I miss something or need to reteach it to myself, the manual is great. She is very nice/approachable. She is always willing to help anyone who needs it

Took her for General Chemistry and she's a wonderful teacher. She's ALWAYS available for help and she teaches in a very clear and concise manor. If you can't pass the class it's your fault for not getting help!
