do everything you can to avoid this professor. doesn't help you with coding at all and gives minimal information about coding in lectures. he will email you code at 4:30 am and expect you to know what it means and how to implement it into your own code. tutors can't help you with his class because he makes his own projects. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM

Make sure to do every project, eventually they build on from there or use later. Use an IDE and learn debugging so you understand OOP as you program. Final didnt feel harder than midterm. Teacher extremely helpful w/ questions, always willing to help with anything. Follow code format he provides, other than that hes not a terribly hard grader.

Great solid professor. Makes class fun with jokes and humor. Just stay on top of coursework and ask questions when confused and you'll be fine.

Professor Jarvis is a smart man, but one of the dumbest teachers I've had at St. Thomas. I took this class twice and failed both times because he could never explain the material in a way that makes sense to someone who's never seen it before (it also didn't help that he had illegible handwriting for notes). DON'T take this class with him.

The worst class/teacher I've ever had. The beginning of class was good &I felt like I was learning a lot but towards the end it was like he got lazy. He would just give us assignments and expect us to figure out how to do them. Also most of your grade is the midterm & final and no curve. I wish I could write more about how awful a teacher he was.

Dr. Jarvis only cares as much as you do. If you put in effort, he will help you. If you skip class, he won't care. His goal is to teach you to problem solve, so he won't give as much help as you might be used to, but that approach forces you to learn the material far better. If you're not serious about programming, don't take his class.

Professor Jarvis is the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. He ruined my programming experience and I would never recommend taking one of his classes. Tests and homework are always tough. He provides little to no help, is a jerk, and doesn't care about you (he never even learned my name). Hardest class I've taken and a brutal professor.

Dr. Jarvis is a very challenging professor but I would still highly recommend taking him. You will learn tons and he will give you a good foundation for future CS classes. Stay on top of your homework and the final project!

Dr. Jarvis is definitely one of the most difficult professors in Computer Science, but you learn a TON. If you never ask for help, the class will be insanely tough, but if you do, Jarvis makes it his mission to help you succeed. Amazing prof. One of the best.

This was my second class with Jarvis and I had basically the same experience. He's a brilliant professor who knows a ton. Do everything he tells you, regardless of whether you have to turn it in. If you need help, get help because he wants everyone to succeed. Learned a ton.

Dr. Jarvis wants you to become a competent, independent and adaptable programmer. Consequently, he constantly overwhelms you with information, tasks and work. It is like having a part time job. He was a bit unclear at times and often gave confusing UML's. However, if you ask for help, stay positive and keep your cool, you will succeed!

The class starts off hard, because you have little knowledge of what you're doing, but it gets a lot easier as you start to understand the material. Make friends and work together, with a tutor, and you'll pass. Just gotta ask for help from everyone if you're stuck, else you stay stuck. Just put in the effort and you'll pass, also stay positive!

This professor is terrible. Doesn't give you enough time with homework. The tests are hard. I wouldn't recommend taking a full load and work if taking it with this teacher. It's sad that taking his class can make student change their mind on what they want to do because he can't teach.

Complete Jerk. The final project took so much time that it hindered my ability to study for any finals. He gives 0 directions. Like those below said, he has awful handwriting, a rude sense of humor, no organization and terrible teaching skills. He tells you to ef off when you go to his office when a project is due soon. Don't take. Take Werness

I have had two bad professors and he is one of them. He has poor handwriting. He assume everyone is understanding things. Homeworks are hard, speaking of hard the project was ridiculous! His exams are hard. If you are not majoring in computer science don't take this course with him. His humor is also not funny.

My experience with Prof Jarvis was unsatisfactory. He generally only gives you one night to do homework, which means you cannot ask him questions. He locks the computers during class and writes extremely illegible/poor notes on the board. Also,If he notices even one syntax error in your code he refuses to help. He really should not be a teacher.
