Comment:
Dr. Sturm wants you to learn. The material is not the easiest, but he is very clear on what you will be tested on. Attendance optional is nice but takes away from any motivation to stay up to date in the class. One assignment per week, four exams. As far as CISC courses, he's not a bad choice for a teacher

Sturm is probably the most passionate teacher at UST. An expert in databases, and an expert at teaching concepts. His HWs are designed so that youll run into subtle problems and learn how to fix them so you can be the 'hero at work' someday. Lectures can get disorganized but he always manages to get the valuable points across. TAKE CS450 with him!

Dr. Sturm knows everything about the topic, one of the more knowledgable professors I've encountered. He is also a really nice guy outside of class and genuinely cares about his students. It's not difficult to get a good grade but you never really feel like you learned all of the material. He is unorganized and scatterbrained often.

Knowledgeable but unclear. You might as well just try and teach yourself; uses a book that's aimed at experienced programmers and doesn't really walk you through anything, just rambles. DO NOT TAKE. Had to teach myself. Only covers half (at best) of material you are tested on, you will have trouble if you have no prior experience with C.

Knowledgeable about the topic but can't teach it. Illogical teaching sequence. Dated textbook is not beginner-friendly. Extremely difficult to pay attention to and follow, I had to teach myself. Uncomfortable asking this professor questions, he seemed to tease/harass students about questions asked during class and often refused to help.

He knows everything about the subject and is extremely knowledgeable. Bad professor who can't teach what's in his head. Didn't enjoy the class and had to teach myself. Overall, not good.

Sturm is pretty boring and old-school, but the class is pretty easy. He says he takes attendance everyday, but it doesn't factor into your grade. All of his lectures are online in note form, so you can skip and just read the notes or just facebook while in class. Tests are a little tough, but not too bad. Homework is an easy A

Great professor! Don't listen to the kiddies complaining about him for Statistics. Class was fairly easy (along with the exams). Gets off topic quite a bit, but his stories are usually entertaining (some of them are pretty funny). Awesome prof to take for the Robotics or DBA course.

Those stats ****bags are just mad because stats is a crappy subject. Sturm is a good guy. Very Eccentric, but he is very knowledgeable. He is also the "badass ladies man" of the QMCS dept. Rumor has it he built his wife from an old WW2 Radio.

Sitting through "The Sturm's" class was dreadful - the longest 65 minutes you will ever experience. If you study it's fairly easy to get an "A" or "B", but you will hate stats forever after taking his course.

Do not take Sturm!! Everything he talks about in class never leaves you lost on homework and exams. He's not confrontational and never answers emails. He does allow you to have cheat sheets on exams, but formulas don't help you if you don't know how to apply them!

Dr. Sturm is very fair and willing to help students succeed. I often get confused in the lectures but the material is easy enough to understand with 10 minutes' work outside of class. Posts old tests online, allows formula sheets, very easy on homework and grading.
