Comment:
Dr. Yang is one of the best math professors here at St. Thomas. I've taken him for MATH114 and MATH210. Although he is difficult, he also gives a lot of guidance and the difficulty will push you to do even better in class. Definitely go to his office hours. He expects you to know things you've learned before already so refresh on those topics.

Dr. Yang teaches a challenging, fast-paced class, but he truly cares about his students and whether or not they are learning the material. Dr. Yang has been instructing for a very long time, so he knows what is important and what is not. Would take again.

Hard grader, does not care about teaching anymore. His office hours are only an hour long.. but the absolute worst. HE WILL NOT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS if you ever dare ask something in class he will ask you why your confused. He makes you feel dumb, regularly comments of how " you learned this in high school" . Never again ever will I take him.

Peter is very knowledgeable and passionate about "transferring knowledge" to his students. However, he often goes too fast to comprehend what is exactly going on in the material. It takes a week or two before you can completely understand him but that is not a huge issue. As long as you read the book and keep up with homework you should be okay.

I took his Math 210, and I got A. He did not collect any homework, but he told us what problems we should do for practice. He would give study period and detail before test. Those detail includes how many questions in the test, how many points of each question, and when you should go for preparing each question on the test. Very good Professor.

Major cultural differences that definitely get in the way of your learning. Nice guy if your class is easy going for him; he says he likes criticism but has a defense for every suggestion made. If you're not perfect, you're lazy. Calls his daughter mediocre, she went to Stanford with a 4.0.

Comment:
Do not take Dr. Yang's class if at all possible. His lectures are uninteresting and do little to teach you how to do the material, which doesn't help at all, as he also didn't follow the book. He gives but does not grade homework, so it is hard to tell how you are doing. Quizzes are difficult. He does tell you what will be on the tests, though.

Comment:
I had Dr. Yang for math 210 Differential Equations, and despite him being a math wizard I would never take a math class from him again. Dr. Yang called his students in class lazy, and expected us to remember material from ALL of calculus on the fly (ie: IBP, Integrations of sin^2, cos^2 etc). My biggest qualm was that he never followed the book.

By far the best math teacher I have ever had! He was absolutely hilarious and told stories all the time. I loved attending his class so much that the one day I missed because I was sick I was super sad. I had taken calc before and this class was super easy as long as you studied and understood how to do calc.

Dr. Yang expects a lot of his students and those expectations cannot always be filled. His exams are hard, and he likes to throw a lot of curveballs at you. Be prepared to have to review older math material constantly because he expects you to remember everything. Best of luck!!

He has a very thick accent. Attendance isn't strictly mandatory but he will talk with you if he notices you routinely skipping class. Attendance is important to understand the material, however. He can be very dry, but every once in a while he can also be hilarious. It's a difficult class, but if you put in the work and take it seriously, it's fine

I would only recommend taking him for higher level math courses, especially if you're a math major. He is a true mathematician in every sense of the word. Full of knowledge and wisdom along with funny stories. Schedule was lecture, get homework and do it again until the tests. He basically tell you what each problem on the test is before each one.

This rating is specifically for Linear Algebra. This is a course the Dr Yang really enjoys teaching. I had him for 114, and he is 100x better for 240. His tests only have 2 proofs, and they are honestly the easiest points on the test. His homework is very algebraic and fairly easy to follow. He gives clear outlines for each test. Take him for 240!

Easily the hardest math class I've taken at UST. I invested loads of time studying, working through extra problems and making study guides and I still did awful in his class. His tests are full of surprises and small tricks. The small tricks really suck and often cause you to get 0/25 on problems, even if you understand the concepts. Avoid!

I really struggled with Dr. Yang's class. Although he writes very clear notes and provides you a topic by topic breakdown for upcoming exams, he still selects the most challenging problems for tests and quizzes. I invested a great deal of effort and time into this class and still failed most of the quizzes and got mediocre scores on the exams. :(

I had mixed feelings at first his accent is a bit tough to understand the first week or so. However, I've since changed my mind. If you put in the effort (like actually go to office hours he loves it when people show up!) he will be very willing to help you. He gives super clear pre-test outlines. He also gives hilarious little life lectures.

The quizzes and test should be easy if you actually study, he lets you know which sections each quiz is going to be on and what day. For tests, he tells you what you need to know and what section you need to study for each question. He does have an accent but he will willingly repeat anything until everybody understands. Some quiz questions on test
