Comment:

How Writer's Break the Rules. The class was interesting and so was Janssen. He is a pretty tough grader, but if he likes you you'll do well. There were no tests (except one fake one where he gave everyone 100). Grades are mostly papers (if you could call them that) and projects. The material is easy, but sometimes I just couldn't stand the class.

He is very strict. If he even suspects you're using your cell phone in class he takes 10% off of your final semester grade. His assignments are fairly easy but he grades pretty hard, and he loses things so make sure you keep everything he hands back and consider making copies of handwritten assignments before handing them in.

I agree the assignments can be unclear at time, but that is not a problem because he always lets you revise your work!! He is a great teacher and this class truly teaches you how to break the conventional rules of composition! i learned sooo much and I have become exceedingly more comfortable with my work being read aloud in front of others!

This professor is the worst. He tends to arrive late to class, also he will play favorites. When he grades your papers he will not take into account you busted your butt to work on it, he will keep the same exact responses. I couldn't stand attending this class. If you want a professor that helps you and doesn't leave you blind don't take him

Worst teacher I've ever had. Purposely makes his assignments and classes boring, writes insulting comments, is extremely pompous, absurdly hard grader, and thinks only he is right. I passed the class and I still hate him.

I had janssen first semester. all of the readings he assigned were ridiculously dull, he was a very difficult grader, and had a few clear favorites who always got As. I got a D, and I have never had a problem in English classes. easily my least favorite prof ive had, and ive had some bad ones

He is ok. Really bad in lecture speak in a low monotone but a nice man. helps you a lot in your papers. has one on one conferences with everyone each paper. Really strict grader but lets you rewrite and breaks paper down for you paragraph by paragraph.

He's a good teacher who addresses the course material and actually teaches something useful. His speech is quiet and slow, so it can be a bit frustrating. He will BOMBARD you with e-mails. A good grader, he will find flaws. Arranges individual conferences for every paper. Interesting course reading. A solid choice.

Ridiculously unhelpful...learned nothing in class..rewrote a paper 4 times and was still given a bad grade...gave instructions for a presentation the day before it was due during finals week with no consideration of the fact that we have other tests to study for! Don't take him...he's made my life miserable and will do the same for you guaranteed!

Boy Oh Boy...What can I say...horrible, horrible, horrible, i didn't mind taking English until I had him...3 long papers, two presentations of which both you have no idea what to do...very boring...the stuff you have to read is boring...he is extremely unclear, a somewhat tough grader and reviser, and right now is making me rewrite my 9 page paper.

Do NOT listen to bad reviews! This guy is GREAT! Only read first book out of 5 and got an A!!!!! Tells CRAZY stories and is VERY nice. I am a VERY hard judge of teachers and this guys is TOTALLY worth it!

Dr. Janssen is a very nice man, however he is not very clear on what he wants his students to do. His class generally consists of about five papers and a final (7 min. presentation). He is the head of Freshman comp so he is pretty hard and quirky. I didn't think he was that bad although its just not a clear class you probably wont like.

WORST TEACHER @HOF/Boring as hell and very unclear.The email was wrong on the sylabis and when i emailed my paper i got a late grade bc of his mistake.Watch out he is an old nasty **** w/ an attitude.Very smart do not get me wrong but the class drags and goes nowhere. Dont waste your time he doesnt budge on anything.

This class was very interesting and you'll definitely walk away from it with something. Professor Janssen is a good professor with great knowledge of the subject matter. It's boring at times but participating and being a good writer pays off. Not many notes to take but a bunch of reading.
