Great and funny professor. The online class was easy. Weekly assignments and sometimes weekly quizzes but they were all online so open notes and open internet. Same with the midterm and final.

I have always been impressed with Dr. Garlick's teaching style and his desire to teach relevant content. One of the only profs in the CS dept that will teach a technology newer than 10 years old. With that said, I wish he didnt carry his political beliefs into the classroom. He makes me feel uncomfortable when he talks about the faults of our Pres.

Dr. Garlick is extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches. That being said, he would often rather tell stories about his wife's family and their Japanese heritage. His excitement surrounding his newfound marriage often trumps his desire to expound upon the topic we joined this class to learn. Overall, the class is quite easy. No huge curveballs.

He explained the topics well and the course was pretty interesting. The percentage breakdown of the final grade changed which threw off my grade a bit, but I was able to recover. On the bright side, he talks a lot about the zodiac killer and he loves japanese culture and anime. His quirkiness makes his rabbit trails very interesting to listen to.

This is a class that you should be able to pass, with ease. just do the weekly assignments and you'll be golden. His Tests pull questions straight from the weekly quizzes. So just group up and take the test. It's all online and its a self teaching class. You can either learn the minimum or go further and actually teach yourself something to use.

I signed up for an in person course, but apparently he called an audible and made it online. I'm definitely not opposed to that so that was certainly a plus. He's occasionally funny, but he's easily triggered. Jokes about vaping and adderall often. His knowledge of the zodiac killer is unmatched, and he's the most prolific weeaboo on campus.

As a working professional in the software development field, Garlick is by far my favorite professor. I have taken many of his classes, and they can usually be done mostly online which is great for non-traditional students like me. The material he teaches is very applicable to the real world - I always use things learned from his classes at my job.

There's no lectures, they're all online, which kind of frustrated me after signing up for a physical course. The work isn't so hard, if you do what you're supposed to, you'll pass (ie watch the entire 5hr video).

Amazing professor. The class (intro. to databases) wasn't very hard, and was a blast to take. I regret not having taken more of Garlick's classes before.

Professor Garlick is easily the best professor I have taken. His lectures are extremely interesting and he teaches towards the real world. He does not believe in tests, so instead you do several short projects that relate to how you will use the skills you learn after college.

I did all of the work, and the project. Somehow he never got my project and failed me. This was due to the fact that he didn't grade anything on time so no one knew they grades or they did the homework right. Everyone has a zero up till a week after classes were over. If you have to take him, email him if he got you assignments.

Awesome professor. Knows how to explain complicated material in a simple, understandable way. He's a very funny guy and that helps to keep you interested in the lecture. Very willing to answer questions and help out any way he can but he still expects you to pull your weight. I would recommend taking his class. Go out of your way to take his class.

Garlick is awesome. Best professor in the CS department now that Retzlaff is gone. He made class interesting. I've never learned so much real world information in one class. Definitely give him a shot before you graduate.

Funniest professor ever! I never laughed so much in my life. This class is better than prescription meds, for depression. He will help you, but only in proportion to your own efforts. He expects you to keep up in the textbook, which takes some discipline, as Java programming isn't an easy subject to concentrate on.

He gets off track a lot and makes a lot of goofy jokes, but he makes you feel comfortable and as long as you go to all the classes and do the homework you'll do well. I never used the book and got an A.
