Absolutely worst experience ever. Gives a poster project and with little discussion on topics or how it should be prepared. Expects to have you read 2 books and also other work in between all this, 2 exams. Horrible! Do not take a class with this professor. Take a history class if needed at Syracuse University

Comment:

Her expectations are WAY too high. Had to read 2 books, a textbook, make her poster project your #1 priority, complete 6 additional assignments and 2 major tests (memorization). On the poster project nobody in the class got an A on the draft which is 10% of your grade and if your partner drops the class she expects the same quality poster.

If you go to every lecture and at least skim the assigned readings, you will be fine in this class. Make sure you understand/memorize the learning objectives, they are on the exam. She has a negative attitude towards the poster project and makes you feel like it needs to consume your life to do well on it. Pick a good partner and do your best.

assigns so much work that its impossible to focus on other classes. Attendance is mandatory, but she just grades all class and leaves you to do nothing for a hour. she complains about all the grading she has to do, but shes the one assigning the work, and doesn't grade outside of class. i hate her class, and she makes my life stressful. no respect

Incredibly unclear with every assignment, and rude when nobody understands. Tells you that the class is about learning concepts and applying them not memorization, which is a blatant lie the tests were 100% memorization and regurgitation. Simply put, if you hate yourself this is the general education class for you.

She is a very strange... professor. Her teaching style has a little too much sarcasm in my opinion and sometimes I feel she needs to actually teach instead of making jokes. Not my kind of learning style. Her exams are easy though, so not hard to get a good grade. Just know the learning objectives she gives for the exams.

Very straight forward class, the only way you can do poorly is if you do not answer all of her points on exercises and if you do not study the lecture objectives. Grading is completely fair and if you ever need help the TAs offer library hours and she has office hours. She is very helpful if you talk to her.

She's hilarious but kind of weird at the same time. She is very cliquey with her TA's, so sometimes the jokes dont make sense. She does grade HARSHLY with projects so don't give a presentation if you aren't good at giving them. Tests are easy, study old tests for the formats and objectives for answers. I did bad on exams and still managed a B.

Intriguing if you actually attend class, and exams are a breeze- she spells out the answers word for word throughout the semester at the beginning of each lecture, and in reviews before each exam. The final exam contains questions from previous exams, which she TELLS you will be on it

Vonhof definitely gets a bad rap - I think it's because she teaches gen eds, and no one wants to take gen eds. She all but gives us the answers to the exams, she lays out all expectations neatly in her syllabus and rubrics. She'll edit your work, you just have to take it to her BEFORE she slaughters it with red pen. I ended up loving her!

For all those complaining about vonhoff, you are idiots. She spells out exactly what you need to know in each lecture and for the tests. It is one of the few classes I actually stay awake in. She is smart and actually makes you think because memorizing things isn't learning.

For those who wrote comments about "negative comments coming from people who shouldn't be students and don't attend or listen", I went to EVERY class. She IS completely unfair. I proved to her in several ways that she was wrong on a couple of things, she said "tough" and I got a lower grade than I deserved because of her mistake and stubborn ways.

So anyway she is a total *****. Not only I, but many of the people I know don't like her and she does not know how to teach. It's like so hard to understand what she expects from and is not afraid to fail everyone. Her tests are easy and pure memorization but are weighted so lightly compared to projects. Avoid if possible; she's the worst ever.

Vonhof is not a bad teacher just unorganized. Most of the semester it was difficult to see where we were going. She was vague and at times she came off with a not so nice attitude. Avoid her is possible but in all likelyhood course requirements won't allow you to do so.
