Comment:

Professor Smethers is great! Lectures are entertaining and interesting. I'm not even a journalism major, but I still loved the class. He transitioned well to online class during COVID, and was very friendly and responsive on emails. Get to know him and enjoy the class! Tests are what makes or breaks your grade. Take lecture notes!

Comment:

Smethers was a fine teacher. The worst part was how few points there are possible in class. However, he drops the lowest test so that helps. The lectures sometimes were a little boring and the information was occasionally hard to apply for tests. Smethers truly cares about his students and wants to help you out.

Comment:

I took this class just for fun and Smethers did a great job! Quizzes and Tests online! I was not able to do as well on tests because missed a few things in lecture usually. He is very funny and increased my wanting to learn more. I enjoyed how he had guest speakers from campus to further how to get involve and how he participated with students. 10!

Steve is great! He says funnyyyy things in class too. All quizzes and tests are online. Classes/lectures help with tests. Watched some documentaries/had speakers that we were asked about on test. Overall easy class!

Nice enough guy, but just talks about himself... I was really looking forward to this class, but ended just really disappointed... It was just listening to an old man ramble on with personal stories about radio in the 1970s. I was hoping to learn something useful or current, but didn't really learn either...

Very nice guy but theres only 4 tests and 4 quizzes total with super short time limits so you literally have to know everything. Very hard to complete tests in time

Comment:

Make sure to get the textbook, there are many questions from there on quizzes/exams. Also, go to lecture, it is not mandatory, but there are also a lot of quiz/test questions from lecture. Although MC110 is a level 100 course, it is definetely tougher than a level 100 course.

My favorite class from this semester. Smethers is fun and makes all of his classes interesting. Take good notes and keep up with the readings and you should be fine.

There is only 4 quizzes and 4 exams, but as long as you read the chapter and show up to class to take notes, you should pass the class. Theres quizlets that really help study. Smethers lectures are not boring and he has a very good sense of humor.

Really fun to be around and keeps lectures light-hearted, but your grade in the course will be based off of only 4 quizzes and 3 tests alone, which are hard. He says that all of the information on tests/quizzes are from lecture/the book but I read every chapter before class and went to all by 3 classes and still was getting high C/s'low B's.

This class is pretty hard and is literally all quizzes and exams. They are all on line and you take them wherever you want. There will be random questions from things he mentioned in lecture as well as things he expects you to know from the textbook. He isn't a bad teacher but definitely be ready for some difficult exams.

Really good teacher who makes class more fun. Just be sure to read the textbook because he doesn't talk about it in class. Skips through powerpoints fairly fast so take pictures of it if you need to. Doesn't always include what he's talking about in powerpoints so listen for important points!! Take advantage of book and notes during quizzes/exams

Professor Smethers was awesome. I took MC110 in a small class size, and all the tests were online. Super easy class.

The test were way more difficult than I thought. Make sure you at least study some and review your notes. He says everything on the test were in lecture but that was a definite lie.

He is a great professor that knows what he is talking about. Also, he is very nice and likes talking to his students. On the contrary, the class is only quizzes and 4 tests, he does drop one test. He expects you to read the book.

The only thing you get graded on in this class is timed online quizzes and tests-which ask extremely specific things which most likely wasn't covered. Personally I thought the class was boring and all it's going to do is hurt my GPA. Do not recommend taking this. Learned nothing.

Good: Fun teacher, all the quizzes & tests are online, book material is easy to learn, drops your lowest test Bad: The tests are difficult, he includes many small details that are barely touched on; he forgets to go over some details at all but they'll still be on the tests; there are only 390 points in the class after dropping the one test.

Comment:

This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken (and I've taken Chem 1 and 2). Professor Smethers is very enthusiastic and tries to make class as fun as possible, but the grading is terrible. The only grades were from tests and quizzes and the tests were extremely hard! Tests are online, but they are timed and over material we never learned.
