Merwin is great--he really makes you work to improve your writing, and gives a lot of reading, but he is a great guy and a very accessible professor. Gives projects, like interviews and podcasts to make the learning interactive.

Comment:

Professor Merwin makes the class fun and interesting and the discussions lively. He tied the readings into the course and the papers he assigned were straightforward and not that hard. For the final research paper, he let us pick a topic that interested us,but was relevant to what we covered in the class.

I learned a lot in prof Merwin's class and read some really wonderful books. I didn't think that his class was an easy A. I got an A- but worked hard for it. Merwin is enthusiastic and fair and cares about students' opinions. The reading were hard to keep up with and we weren't given a lot of time to write papers, but Merwin allows rewrites!

Prof Merwin is very challenging, and a lot of students here just don't want to work. He is really smart and demanding--expects a lot. If you actually prepare the readings, lectures are not boring at all!

Not a very good teacher. Has you watch alot of movies outside of class that are pointless(there was a 4 hour movie). The reading we do is pointless and the writing assignments he gives out don't help you understand the subject. He is a nice guy ,but not tenured professor material

Jesus Christ! This guy should not be allowed to teach - did not learn a thing from his classes - total waste of time. Took his class and pass/fail to cover some divisions and did not put any effort in it , but I still avergaed a B+.

INCREDIBLY easy course, if you need an A. Horribly boring, didn't learn a thing. PS--NEVER GO ON HIS FIELD TRIPS. They are disorganized & horrific, he almost got me hit by an oncoming car and got the whole class lost.
