As long as you go to lecture and take good notes, you should be okay. He seems intimidating at first but explains things really clearly and in a way that makes the topics interesting. Minimum of 6 single space pages worth of briefs, midterm, and a final. I enjoyed the class and he is a great professor!

Comment:
EXTREMELY lecture heavy. Beamish is a cool dude but shows no mercy when it comes to exams. This class felt more econ heavy than environmental so choose wisely. Pick your book to review early and take solid notes during lecture. He talks incredibly fast. Also few assignments to get graded on so do well. Does a class question at the end so show up.

Beamish is very intelligent so it makes the lectures interesting. The midterms and final are very lecture heavy so you better show up. You have to work for your grade. Two midterms, a five page book review, and a final.

Beamish knows what he's doing. He is the Organizational Studies head after all. Working with groups and organization is his thing and has made a friggin science of it. Legit class. Challenging, but well worth the hustle. Read and participate. Don't procrastinate. Also may curve some group work, so be active in your groups! Would take them again.

The professor is cool, I like him. I came to every class but attendance isn't mandatory (highly recommend tho bc I still cried three times studying for the final to try and level out my grade). There are only 3 assignments in the class (midterm, reaction briefs, final) so dont mess up early on. Im a procrastinator but dont wait to do the briefs!!

This is a lecture heavy course. I would not recommend it, if you cannot attend every lecture. He talks very fast, he is very smart, and he is very intense. Coffee up and bring your recorder. You get quizzed almost daily. He is great at what he does and he makes you think. Keep up with the outside readings. He tests you on them. I would repeat.

This is one of the best classes I've taken at UCD. It really put things into perspective for me, being an environmental science major. It is a lot of work and a lot of reading but I really valued the things I learned in his class. Reading the textbook helps a lot. Also, focus on connection of concepts and ideas rather than memorization.

After taking this class, I never trust Ratemyprofessor review. Everyone said he is good..... well, he is a good professor. He is motivated, respected, and well organized. BUT, he talks fast, and his class was difficult than I expected. Get ready to read, and attendance matter.

Great experience. Super enthusiastic lecturer, passionate about the material & knows it super well. Straightforward assignments. Thought the final exam was challenging but that is it. Grading is done entirely by the TA. You should do the readings, but you can get by w/o doing them. Textbook is unnecessary. Came in little SOC knowledge & was fine

Professor Beamish is a great professor. There is a midterm, final, and 3 video response briefs that are two pages each (Single spaced). This class is a good balance, just don't wait to study and finish briefs during the last week of quarter. You have to show up because there are 1 question quizzes that make up participation points (10% of grade).

Instructions for the project were unorganized and you really had to scour each handout to read the criteria to complete the research paper the way he wants. Lectures were a little hard to follow but you really just need to study the slides. Ends class early everyday. He is smart and knows his stuff. Also very easy on the eyes. :)

He's an engaging lecturer, passionate, funny, and very clear. I found the class to be an easy A, attend lectures and pay attention and you will too. I really enjoyed his class and would recommend it if you want to learn important and interesting things, be inspired, and not work too hard in the process!

Prof. Beamish does not expect anything outrageous. Go to the classes, pay attention, study a little and you'll do fine. Three one page reaction briefs to movies, a midterm and final. Don't really need text. He knows his stuff and is very passionate, funny at times. I highly recommend him and would definitely take his class again!! One of my favs..

Reading other peoples' reviews is really confusing to me! I hated this class. Lectures were boring. There was a 7-10 single spaced paper at the end which was the only thing that saved my grade. Thank god he curved. I got a 74% in the class and it ended up being a B! The midterms and finals were hard and the topic was so incredibly dry.

Make sure to pay attention to his lecture slides (he posts them) for the testspapers. GO TO FINAL REVIEW for midterm and final and take super good notes and you'll be fine for the tests, he explicitly says which thingsconcepts will be on there. He breaks down complex topics to relatable examples. Don't really need the book. GREAT PROF.

Dr. Beamish is a good professor- you work hard in class but he is very resourceful and helpful and his lectures are very interesting. He is one of those professors who take the extra step to help students and his instructions are clear. If you put the work you will get a good grade, and if you slack you won't do well. Listen in class and take notes

Best professor. You need to be willing to work though. The paper is 7-10 pages single spaced. You learn a lot and he's very engaging. I'd recommend him to anyone willing to put some work in. This class is amazing.

This Professor is a must take. There is a lot of lecture, but he is intelligent and therefore fun to listen to. I will be taking him for the third time next quarter because I enjoy his style so much. However, if you are a student that wants easy courses that do not challenge your learning here at COLLEGE, then do not take.

1 midterm, a group project, and a Final. Attendance is not mandatory, however, it will definitely help you in understanding this complex course. This course is not meant for the weak, therefore is an ideal type of "higher education". Challenging, yet extremely rewarding. A must take professor! Strongly recommend.
