Comment:
Mr. Conser's class is not only the most boring class, but also the most difficult to understand. Both in class and with the heavy reading articles that he sends every night for homework. There are 3 grades all semester for this course, and they each are tests. He questions each person in class randomly on the readings. Avoid this course if you can.

It amazes me that others believe he is a good professor. His material that he teaches is so broad and does not really relate to religion in any way. You don't get a single grade before the add/drop period ends so at first you don't know whether or not you want to stay. Do not take this class.

Lots of readings. Class seems easy at first but once drop/add ends he gets really hard. 3 exams and 1 very large paper are the only grades. You HAVE to do every ready and take very intense notes in order to get at least a B. Don't believe what anyone says.. he's very hard

It is very clear what is expected of you but it's still challenging. One big paper and two tests plus the final are the only grades in the class.

Every lecture you just run through bullet points he throws on the board, which are more or less what you had to read before attending class. Unless you are interested in religion, I wouldn't take the class; its a snooze fest. Very straightforward about what he wants though, so you know what to expect. Expect a lot of corny jokes.

This is the academic study of religion. In other words, you learn different aspects of religion. Do not take this class if you want to learn about the specifics of certain religions. However, if you have an interest in religion it is definitely an interesting class.

He's great at teaching concepts with real-life application for a better understanding of the material. He organizes notes well on the board when he writes them. Conser has the best fashion sense too!

It is an interesting class and for the most part the material is very straight forward. You are required to attend a worship service and write a 10 -15 page paper on it. Professor Conser doesn't like when people ask too many questions, and was often rude to students who did ask them.

Dr. Conser is such a sweet, fun guy. He does ramble in his lectures, and his tests required not only studying but comprehension. He had a reading assignment due practically every class, but he's willing to help you any way he can!

Dr. Conser is great to take if you have a genuine interest in religion. To get As on the tests, you HAVE to read the textbook. For his multiple choice questions, I would say 20-30% are out of the textbook and the rest from lectures. He grades the essay parts of tests pretty harshly, and I suggest you just regurgitate all of the vocab you can.

Dr. Conser is a hard professor and definitely shouldn't be taken if you're looking for an easy A. You need to go to all lectures if you want to pass and keep up with your reading. His tests are tricky, and there are only two of them, and theres a 10 page paper at the end of the semester that is no fun to write. He is the nicest guy though

Conser is a really nice guy and a great professor but his exams are very difficult. There is reading every night and the exams draw from both the lecture and the exam so definitely make sure you read. In order to do well you have to put in a lot of work. Not an easy A at all.

Conser is a really good professor, it's a bit difficult to reach him outside of class other than through email. His tests aren't too tricky if you actually pay attention in lecture and read the book.

He did not understand the fact he was teaching a 103 introductory course, assigned 10+ pages of reading for every class. Taught the material well, but was hard to contact outside of class as he did not have a home computer/laptop. Provided no supplemental material like study guides, just the dates that each section was gone over.

Everything you learn in this class is useless if you aren't really interested in religion. You learn how to study religion not anything about religion itself. Tests are super tricky and you have to write a 10 page paper. Not cool for a 100 level class. A lot of reading. He is a nice guy but as someone who takes no interest in this subject, IT SUCKS

Dr. Conser is one of the nicest professors that I have had at UNCW; however, his class is extremely boring, but he does his best to make it interesting. His tests are difficult (there are only 3 exams and one paper) but the paper is fairly simple. He is always willing to talk about grades and assignments. All in all, it's a fair class.

He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He uses a lot of great examples when explaining hard to grasp concepts. I was dreading the final paper but had more than enough information to write ten solid pages. The tests are difficult but studying in groups helps tremendously. I recommend this class to everyone regardless of major.

Excellent professor. Goes above and beyond to make sure students understand the material. Genuinely cares about the students and if they are learning and enjoying he material. Incredibly accessible outside of class as well. Top notch, as good as they come. Take Conser & understand religion. Take Conser & understand that your beard can't touch his.
