Comment:

He is such a sweet Southern man who is very knowledgeable about literature. His classes are easy and short (as he lets you out early) and if you participate, he will like you more. Not a lot of work, and overall he's very helpful if you don't understand something. I would take him again!

Comment:

He's such a sweet old southern man. C&E is so dumb, no matter who you take, but at least this class was an easy A. As long as you just pay attention a little bit, you can just repeat everything he says in class on your essays and you'll get good grades.

Professor MacCary is a very smart man. He gives 3 in class essays over the course of the semester and most people get As or Bs. If you do horrid on one, he'll "forget" about it, assuming that you didn't understand the books he chose. He's such a nice man with tons of experience in literature.

He lets you out early usually because C and E is in a weird time slot (during a normal lunch hour). Tho I hated him at the end because I wasn't in class for a few weeks due to a family emergency then I was in the hospital with a concussion. I come back and apolagize and he didn't care! He said it was my problem and didn't give me extensions.

Not a fan. His accent is hard to comprehend. The tests were a joke and the material was dreadful. His is an easy grader and we always get out early however this class is ridiculously BORING!

At first I hated MacCary with a passion. Then I figured out his humor and realized that he just doesn't know how to articulate to college students. Participate in his class, that way he knows your name and that helps your grade. He might make faces at you and/or call you flat out wrong, but just laugh it off he will disagree with everyone.

At first I could not understand a thing he was saying, but he is super intelligent and interesting (he knows a lot of famous people). We got out of class super early and attendance isn't mandatory. He gives you all the answers to the midterm ahead of time if you ask and you only have one essay. For the final I emailed him was so helpful. Great Guy!

He always let us out of class half an hour early, and tests were extremely easy if you pay attention in class and take notes. He doesn't tolerate phone use in class and will call you out if he sees you, but other than that the class is easy and overall fun if interested in literature. Take him for an easy A!

Excellent class taught by a Southern Gentleman. You will be exposed to all the great writers and their works. Material is not difficult if you PACE yourself with the reading. Cramming with the help of Sparknotes is a gift from God. Take him. No regrets.

I really don't know what everyone is talking about. He is hands down the EASIEST professor at hofstra. Lets you leave early, cancels class, gives like three ridiculously easy assignments for which he tells you EXACTLY what to write about- topic, supporting examples, everything. You may not learn too much, but it's worth it for the free A.

Took him for Shakespeare and Western Lit, 1-2 in class essays lets you re-write them if you do poorly but midterm/final are impossible. All based on identifying the text so make sure you have a good memory or you may be in trouble. Never takes attendance and you get to leave at least 30 minutes early every class.

I have to admit i thought this class was going to be the worst class i've ever taken. I expected myself to fail. However, make sure to talk to this professor after class if you feel this way, it may not seem like it, but he really does let you make up the work you messed up on. He is very boring, but it's not impossible for you to do well.

He is extremely boring. It doesn't matter though because you don't actually have to read anything. Just spit back anything you've heard him say on papers and tests and you will ace this class. 2 in-class essays, a midterm and a final. And if you get an A on the first 3 then you get an automatic A for the class and don't have to take the final.

I found this class to be very bizarre all around. MacCary had a very skewed perception of SS lit, and his grading policies are even more puzzling. Overall the reading material was good, but stay far away from this professor as you can b/c his teaching methods and interpretations are nothing but aggravation. Take this class with another prof.

Very weird teacher i took him during spring '06 for source studies...i found his class extremely easy...all i did was pay attention in his class...i barely read the text and somehow managed an A...his midterm and final were a bit unfair bc i dont really like to identify text...other than that i thought he was good
