He cares a lot about his students, but assigns tons of assignments that take lots of time to complete. You must do well on tests or it will tank your grade. It is hard to take notes in his class because he just tells stories. It is pretty much a history class, not religion. Be prepared for hard tests/homework and a ten page paper at the end.

Professor Marler is caring and knows his stuff. You don't have to do the readings, he hands out outlines and tells you what will be on the test. The class has only a total of 15 assignments so there is much room for mistake. Marler is an easy grader but can sometimes put you to sleep. I recommend him but be prepared to study for his test.

I've really enjoyed this class. He assigns a few papers, take home quizzes, and other assignments but is a VERY easy grader. He gives you outlines for all of his lectures so you really don't even have to take notes. Super nice guy and always willing to help out. Doesn't care if you're late, will make exceptions to due dates, those sort of things.

Marler is one of the most kind-hearted individuals I know, but his lectures go by so slowly. The class is an easy-A if you stay on top of due dates and assignments. He tries to make the class interesting and keep you awake by sharing personal stories, but I've definitely daydreamed a lot. He's super knowledgeable about the subject and super smart.

He is a good teacher becasue he loves what he teaches but he is boring. I cannot stay awake in the class. He doesn't make it interesting. He is a pretty easy grader but lots of papers. There is a 10 page paper in a 100 level class. Unnecessay. He always goes over by a couple of minutes and says he owes us that time back but never gives it to us.

This is a really fun class. He works with you to teach you, and he is willing to help out if something comes up and you miss a due date or test. He teaches well, but you can do most of the homework without the textbook. I might have opened the book twice. And he makes it relevant. The final paper is a great to apply the material to your major.

So I took Dr. Marler and over all he is a good teacher and can keep you pretty alert even if you dont really care about the subject. There is much homework but when there is it is alot. You have to go on a field trip and write a report and at the end of the semester you have to write a 10 page paper. The test are ones that you must STUDY for an A.

I loved Marler! You can tell that he really cares about his students and loves what he does. Although 8am is pretty early, he always manages to keep my atttention. Coming to class is crucial becuase as he goes through the notes, he tells you what will be on the test. I only study what he says will be on the test and he has never let me down. Plu

i thought it would go indepth about each religion, it doesn't. more of the histroy. he said the semmester he taught us was different than the others. but he was unfair by the fact if you missed a test in class you got to take it home. he gives a study guide each class. STUDY IT! he doesnt go over text readings. 10 page paper field trips aka h/w

Marler teaches with a much different viewpoint than other Religion in America profs - he focuses a lot more on the history of all the religions than their actual following in the U.S. (at least not until the end when you're to strictly American-based denominations). Knowledgeable, you can take naps, and grades...pretty easy.

I never understood what he talked about in class, but I got a B in the class. I failed two tests, got an A on the take home test, did the other easy assignments, and did fairly well on the final. But I failed 2 tests and got a B so It is doable. He is extremely nice and I called him all the time for help. Its easier to call than email! Hereallycare

Marler is probably the best prof in the whole Religion dept. Extremely kind, but come to class... Take the 8 am, sign the roll and take a nap. He hands out study guides for the tests, which are basically the tests. He grades very easily

I took REL 131 with Prof. Marler and he was awesome! Very flexible about turning in late assignements, his tests you have to study for, but sometimes he'll let you make them up if you do poorly. Hes very fair and understanding. Hes a funny guy with a big heart.

This is a great professor. The tests are hard but with the other assigments you should get an A. If you go to class everyday he gives u 25 pts EX Credit. I turned in all my assigments the day after it was due and still got full credit. Lectures are a little boring especially at 8 am. Take his class. I heard the other ones were hard.

He is a good teacher. Be prepared to know your songs! He includes lyrics every day from any song that has to do with his lecture that day. That is very interesting. The occasional assignment is VERY easy points. The first test sucks, but others are fairly easy. Take this class, just not at 8 am if you aren't a morning person!
