One of the three best teachers I have ever had. Her classes (I took three) profoundly affected me. I will always be grateful to her. THANK YOU PROFESSOR FREED.

Professor Freed is not easy. However, most great professors are not easy. If you show up, pay attention, do the work, etc., you will learn 10x what you would in an easy class, and enjoy the process as well.

Do not text during class, if so, she will either kick you out and mark you absence or give you a warning. Her office hours are very helpful so USE IT! She can be rude sometimes especially with her sarcasm. As long as you do all 10 journals and read the readings ahead of time, you should be fine. Overall, she is a great professor!

She's a little uptight with her own set of rules, but she's not THAT bad. Just don't ever and I mean ever argue with her or have a debate with her because you will not win and just get on her bad side. Oh and don't ever ask questions for papers and exams or she will get really annoyed at you.

*DISCLAIMER-no cooking or eating massive amounts of food like people thought when enrolling* 5 required blogs, 5 optional pass/fail blogs (of 10), midterm & final, go to class, do the readings, & you'll get an A. The class material was over-analyzed & common sense, in my opinion. Also, she doesn't let you leave class to use the restroom.

not a bad professor. has a nice smile. class discussions were pretty interesting. grades are based on ur attendance, tests, and ur blog entries (they are not hard, but write them carefully, cuz her way of grading them is kinda picky). overall, not a hard class. kinda interesting. take it if u want, but dont if u cant stand reading. LOTS of reading.

Honestly, she wasn't as bad as people say. I had her for Language in Society. Yeah, she'll embarrass you if you show up late, leave for the bathroom, or check your phone. But come on we're in college, is one hour and 15 minutes THAT long that you can't hold it? Exams weren't that hard. Pay attention in class and you won't even have to study.

Survival Guide to Freed: DO: the reading. DON'T: think independently about it. DO: write down her buzzwords and parrot them back to her. DONT: Contradict her or ask her to clarify anything. Including instructions. DO: Find a classmate who gets it and ask them instead. DONT: go to the bathroom or even look at your phone for the time. DO: get a watch

Unclear, does not make time for students questions. Spent every class discussing a project and people still didn't understand, but didn't even look at all parts of my project & focused on one section. Even a person with a master's degree needed clarification! Not fair in grading. I already have one degree, straight A student. Will damage your GPA.

Horrible Professor!!!!!!! She does not know how to teach. Stay away from her. She loves to humiliate and embarrass students and is very condescending. Never offer opinion in class because she is ALWAYS RIGHT. Her rules are ridiculous and she picks favorites.

An absolutely horrid professor. She actually got into an argument with a student during the review for the final exam. Her exams are multiple choice/T-F/essay, you will pass the multiple choice and true/false but will get shotdown in the essay section because she chooses favorites (mostly women). AVOID if possible.

She is very intimidating and difficult. She refuses to tell you the way things will be asked on a test so you're stuck studying 100pgs in the book with no direction. I'm an A student and studied 11 hours for her first exam and got a 74. This lady is actually making me consider changing my major. DON'T TAKE HER!

I was hesitant on taking this class because of the comments on here, but she's really not so bad. She's very helpful. I will say though the fact that you cannot leave the classroom, not even to use the bathroom is a little ridiculous. She knows her stuff. If you want to learn the structure of English, you definitely will with Dr. Freed.

I cannot stress this enough: STAY AWAY! This is the nastiest woman you can come across. She's sarcastic, LOVES to put people down and have the last word. The only good thing was that you're allowed 4 unexcused absences. DO NOT take this sad, pathetic woman. She obviously divorced her 1st husband because she probably didn't have her way with things.

I didn't really like her class. She was hard to understand & she moved very quickly. Her tests are hard but if you read the book & take notes, its okay. She doesn't like to be contradicted so be careful of what you say. But I would not take her again.

Dr. Freed is very intelligent and knows a lot about linguistics, but, she is much better with teaching sociolinguistics (lang and gender/lang in society) than she is with structure. She's very clear but after having her for three times now, she brings socio into every class. Not the best at this subject but still a good professor.
