Comment:
Not a great lecturer. She doesn't speak clearly and is difficult to pay attention to, in my opinion. She doesn't really make the material interesting. She's fairly knowledgeable in the subject, though.

She's a really great professor. Global Conflicts isn't all that interesting but she does her best. Be ready to take a TON of handwritten notes, though. But she gives you everything that you need to get a good grade. Her speech can be a little distracting but she still knows her stuff. I recommend taking her class!

I had Dr. Secor for a pilot class called Global Conflict. While I had mixed feelings about the necessity of some of the info in her presentations, she was an enjoyable lecturer and did a good job of preparing you for and grading the tests.

I'm leaning towards Bagby, but I've heard he has changed his format recently so that could explain the different strokes. You read a lot in this course and the reading checks don't really promote reading so much as glancing over for the answer. The all-comprehensive study guide also makes students flake out and memorize just enough for exams. E-Z

I took both Bagby's 330 and Secor's 328 at the same time and found Dr. Secor's more interesting and challenging. While she does require a large amount of reading, not all of it is from textbooks. We actually read comics, both of which turned out to be quite interesting and a welcome change. The first rater could not be more inaccurate.

Honestly, if you want a Middle East class, I'd say you're better off taking AIS 330 with Bagby. His classes are more interesting and the topics have more depth, you're not jotting down notes every second, and the exams are easier. Her class isn't bad at all, I just feel you can take the virtually the same course and get more out of it with Bagby.

This class was freakin' awesome. Dr. Secor really made class interesting. Encouraged discussion and was really helpful in answering questions. If you study you will Ace the exam. She is THE most reasonable professor at UK and literally the only one who made my 8G's a year worth every penny!

Very knowledgeable of the subject material, on religion and identity, and theoretically sophisticated. Her speech should not be viewed negatively in relation to her teaching ability, as she conveys the subject material with adequate clarity. If you wish to learn broadly and deeply, take her courses.

If you can avoid it, don't take her for this class. She gives a ton of notes and expects you to know everything in the notes and everything in the book. I had to type my notes because there were so many and I had 20 pages typed. Her exams are really hard and she is extremely boring.
