This class should be called the history of music. Not the history of rock and roll. Recitation lectures were not helpful and class lectures were typically pretty boring. I didn't attend a total of 4 classes (class was three time a week) and got a B on attendance. So I'd show up to every single class. 2 papers that are graded with a lot of grace

Dr. Ashby is a passionate professor and Rock and Roll is a great and fun class to take to fulfill a visual/performing arts credit. There are two papers that are graded easily and 3 exams that are easy as long as you use the resources given to you. Lecture outlines are on carmen and recitation TAs use Kahoots that are also posted for studying help.

I love Ashby! He's an amazing instructor and clearly is passionate about his subject. He's also really funny and doesn't take himself too seriously. Even if the class isn't required, it's definitely worth taking.

this was romantic through 20th century stuff. required, but definitely the most palatable of other mus hist courses for majors...may be because he taught it(?). nice guy, good lectures.

Easy class, no need to buy the text books. Attendance is graded but their is no recitation and lectures are enjoyable. Papers are in groups and are graded very easy. Very good pick for VPA GEC.

If you want a really easy A without going to class ever, please take this class. I haven't been to class in weeks and got a 100 percent on the midterm. You definitely don't need to buy the books, so don't waste your money.

Cares very much about how students do. If you show intrest in subject he will open a whole new world for you to discorver. Loves to teach!!!!!! Lectures give alot of interesting context to the songs that one would have not know about perviously to his course. Strongly recomend taking his course or any that he may teach!!!!

the class was beyond disorganized, often went off on tangents that often trailed off, no real grading scale, seemingly could not think on his feet, believes students to actually spend time on online discussions and 2/3 page papers, makes things more difficult then they should be

I thought this was a very easy class. I had no problems with the papers, and I actually enjoyed writing about why I hate Britney Spears for one of the papers. It's interesting material, though I thought Ashby made some of it kind of boring.
