Very tough class. As an overall professor he is probably a D+ or C-. He goes over material but only after about an hour of talking about irrelevant material pertaining to himself. More class examples of problems would be better. However, to be fair it is a masters class in one of the hardest majors offered in college.(Tax law)

I am seeing a ton of harsh comments listed for Prof. McClain. I took him for a course at UMUC and he was amazing! He was very helpful, understanding, and responsive to emails; once homework was corrected, solutions were supplied (expediently). His comments were helpful, insightful, and focused. Show interest, participate and study. You will be fine

He is a pretty good professor. Partnership tax is just hard to teach. Reading before class is extremely helpful, because he does skip around some of the time. If you put in the work, you will do fine. I would take him again.

the only thing I learned from him is not to be like him, he is that bad. he has no business being a teacher. I would advice to avoid even talking to him, but he's the chair of the department, and there are a couple of tax classes that no other professor teaches. the bottom line he's the a bad professor and even a worse person

This class is a forum for McClain to tell stories and brag about his financial status. He refuses to teach or elaborate on any topic he brings up. Grading is a joke-he assigns TONS of homework but has his TAs grade it. He constantly complains that he doesn't want to be in class. I feel robbed of my $1500 for this useless class! Avoid it if possible

Not a good teacher. Tells stories about his law practice thru the whole lecture. Doesn't care about helping students do well. Small curve. Tests are multiple choice, but difficult b/c you don't learn anything from lectures. Read the book. 2 writing assignments- just answering discussion Q's at end of ch's. Essays only hurt your grade.

I had this guy for one hour as a sub in my tax accounting class. World class jerk. I am sure the two smiley faces that he did receive on this site were added by him.
