If you are good at/liked organic, then the class is a breeze as you will be able to follow the repetitive mechanisms. If you hate organic and want an A get old tests at all costs! I love organic and found this an easy A, and she's a good teacher. don't need book, and again get the old tests (buy them if you have to). She's willing to help you too

Don't listen to the freshman on here that say that Dr. Scholz is a bad teacher. She is an excellent professor. She thoroughly explains the material and works out advanced mechanisms on the board. Do not skip class or you will be lost. Do not buy the book, because she does not teach from it. I received an A+ in her polymer chemistry class.

First C ever! Kinda a bummer, but the two people I asked who previously took this course failed out. It really shouldn't be so difficult, it's just that Dr. Scholz is very dry, so I never went to class. I thought reading the text was better. Anyway, go to class and bare it. She is a smart lady but has a German accent and tends to repeat herself.

So-so. Thinks students should already know 121 in highschool, which is probably true, though she did work examples. I took some notes, but OWL was how I learned. OWL apparently really improved and was very helpful to me--had great fun w it.

She has an odd sense of humor. You can tell that she would rather be in the lab than teaching the class. She does have a German accent, but it is easy to understand her. Not a horrible teacher, but I would recommend someone else if possible.

This is no doubt the hardest class I've taken at UAH so far. I went to every lecture and had an A+ in the prerequisite class, CH101. Although I studied extensively for each exam, it was never clear what material would actually be on it. Also, there is a lot of OWL homework to complete which doesn't prepare you at all for the exam.

People in 121: stop whining. You're a freshamn, get used to it or leave. I gave one of her tests to yall & it's NOT that hard. Took her for 440 (Polymers) and I LOVED the class! I made an A+, and it was extremely interesting. I wish it was a 2 semester class, but it's only one. I'm sitting in on her grad course too! Her grade: 10/10

Carmen Scholz is a terrible teacher. Disorganized, brusque, and apathetic, she makes chemistry altogether boring. Her tests are out of left field, and even well-prepared students may fare poorly. Avoid this professor if at all possible.

She is a good teacher. It is a lot easier if you get a hold of some of the old tests. Not only are the old tests similar, but it gives you an idea of what to take down for notes. For those who took 121 with her and complained, everyone hates OWL. It's like a rite of passage. Suck it up.

The practice tests seem good at first, but knowing them inside and out won't get you an A. You have to study ALL of your notes to really be prepared. The final is much harder than the regular tests, which is saying a lot because the tests are pretty difficult. In retrospect, I should have gotten a test prep book for the standardized exam.

She is a very good lecturer with a great sense of humor. Seems to care genuinely about whether or not a student understands. OWL homework = yuck. . . but, but, BUT. . . it really helps with performing well on the test. I would say she's a great teacher to have for the class. Do all the work and you'll do fine.

She's mean, yes. But I can't say that she didn't do a good job at chemistry. You have to work to get a good grade, but aren't all good teachers like that? She's actually really nice once you get to know her, but don't expect liniency.
