I took Sra Smolen online for Spanish 1, she was wonderful. She was very understanding, as I had a few bumps along the way. It is a heavy course load, online especially. But I thoroughly enjoyed this class.

I'll be honest, I had 7 years of Spanish prior to taking this course so it was very easy for me. For someone who never took Spanish, it will be tough. You use a 3rd party site called VLCCentral. All your coursework is there. The HW is straight forward. The site is setup nice. In my opinion, learning Spanish in person is much easier. How this helps.

PROFESSOR SMOLEN IS TRULY AN AMAZING TEACHER! I WOULD RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE SHE IS SO HELPFUL, AND TRULY CARES IF YOU DO WELL! TAKE HER!!!

I took Professor Smolen during a 6 week online course. I thought her class was very easy. It's an easy A, as long as you put in the studying time (2 test in testing center.) She was very kind and will explain anything if you just ask! If you have never taken a Spanish class prior, don't take it online because it might be more difficult for you!

Tests were all open end and very difficult when taking other classes! Make sure to prepare yourself for lots of vocabulary and memorization or else you'll fail her tests.

She gets visibly annoyed very easily if you ask a question she thinks you should know the answer to. She treats students like babies, yet she is always quick to complain about disrespectful students. I was one of the better students in the class, so she never get on my case, and I couldn't stand how she treated others. She doesn't build you up.

She doesn't seem to like adult studets. She does NOT want to help them, she told me to drop out the first week despite my desire and willingness to learn Spanish. If you are fresh out of high school and had Spanish recently they you will do fine in her class, otherwise I wouldn't recommend her class.

She is a very kind lady who is willing to help you if you need it. If you work hard and study you will get a decent grade. Make sure to utilize her office hours. You are probably going to need it for you are not that great with learning languages.

She is really nice and she cares a lot about her students but she is not organized.she makes you buy the online access to wileyplus even though you barely ever use it and its like wasting your money. She becomes strict all of a sudden once in a while which is strange, but she is really caring and helpful and tries to make the class fun.

Had her for span 110 and was easy, but 111, she changed. you learn the first 2 sections very vaguely and then the third you practically teach yourself. most of the time you are able to have 2 days to take tests and look over info at home which helps you pass. be ready to work, you can't really just glide through, you have to put effort in.

I enjoyed her class very much. she is extremely nice and has a good sense of humor. She'll take the time to know her students and is always more than willing to stop what she is doing to make sure a student understands what is going on. I highly recommend this professor.

Took Elementary Spanish I with and have to say, a very kind and caring professor. She helps students either during class time or if you see her during her office hours. Keeps the whole class involved and makes the material interesting.

Senora Smolen was one of the sweetest teachers i've ever had. I found her to be more than fair to everyone in the class. Actually sometimes I thought she was being too nice. Wonderful personality and very sharp. She knows her subject inside and out and wants you to do the same!

Comment:

She does NOT like adult students. Several adults found her to be abrasive and degrading. Doesn't offer any extra help; suggested getting a tutor or dropping out of her class. (Several adults) worked our butts off in and out of the classroom. All got A's due to the extra hours spent on the class. She couldn't even say "way to go" or "good job."
