Took Dr. Black for PHY 201 & 202 over the summer. Lab was clear, and he was willing to explain stuff and assist with the lab write ups. For lecture, I did not gather much. I learned by doing the Easy/Medium practice problems from the back of each chapter. Be sure to make a detailed notecard for each exam. Curves the class avg on each exam to a 78.

I have never fought so hard for such a bad grade. He doesnt know how to teach an introductory course. If you ask questions he mocks you. Kind of takes attendance even though the lectures make no sense. Goes through 1 example a class, and I still understand nothing about physics. I would rather have taken the 8am. Dont do this to yourself.

Oh my god. Dont. This is an introductory physics class, yet he assumes we all have an understanding of the subject. I dont even understand whats coming out of his mouth 85% of the time. The homework makes no sense, and he writes all over the board in the most illogical way. Also, no canvas or PowerPoints so you cant even reread the nonsense.

DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR PHY LAB. Literally worst professor I have ever had to deal with. You have no idea what he's talking about half the time. He takes up your labs and grades them and does not give them back until the last lab. Then you will get a 0 for one that the rest of your group got a 1 on and when he realizes this he does nothing about it.

Dr. Black is an incredibly smart man, I mean he is a nuclear physicist after all. In class, he will show the full derivation of how to do different problems. He will answer questions, and will re-work problems if asked. His labs are well done and not too time consuming. Reading the text is mandatory for this class. If you don't keep up with the homework and the material you will fail. This is physics after all not arithmetic.

He's cool but not a good professor- does 1 problem per class where he rants and writes all over board(no idea what goes where). Its hard to explain, but he will change what you're solving for/length/mass/etc, halfway through and confuse everyone. The tests seem like they could be easy if we did similar ones in class. I suggest online practice exams

Summer session. Scantron test. Exams easier than hmwrk. Teaches concepts but you need to solve problems! Learn from book. Take written notes from text and redo all sample problems. Do extra chapter problems-a few easy to medium hard in each module. Look for solutions manual for help. Prof might offer xtra credit if class respectful. Learn from text

He is extremely smart, and also extremely full of himself. He isn't mean but he doesn't like stupid people. The way he explains things is absolutely awful. In order to pass the class you will have to read the book and figure out 75% of it on your own. He will help if you ask but he is very loud and somewhat condescending

He's a great guy, he's got a wonderful personality.. but he's a terrible teacher. I went to class everyday, paid attention, did the homework, and still managed to fail his class. Lab was easy, it's pretty hard to fail lab. I wish it was separately credited. But the class... The textbook is required for homework and used heavily.

Absolutely awful professor. Do not take him. The course was incredibly unorganized and he does not respond to emails at all or until 1 am, 9 hours afterwards. He sees partial credit as "a gift" and does not like to give it.

Dr. Black is one of the nicest professors I have had at UNCW and very understanding. However, the way he explains some concepts are not the clearest. He is readily available to provide help though, and that is helpful. Would recommend him.

It is a difficult subject made better by a decent sense of humor. You must ask about questions if you have them, but substantial test curves, bonus attendance points, generous grading policy, and easy labs mean that failure can only be placed on the student. Not the best prof., but more than fair.

I took this class over the summer, and I had previously heard not so great things about this professor, but everything I heard was not true. He was not clear all the time, but always worked really hard to help clarify. Do the practice problems if you want to get better, but show up and do the practice exams twice or three times to get a good grade

Dr. Black does not teach. He goes over examples after examples, but he does not explain any concepts. I went to get aid from him in understanding a problem, but all he did was do the same thing as in class. One thing I did love, and this helped me out a lot, was that he grades all tests on a curve. Most of the curves were 20+ points.

He DOES NOT TEACH. Gives powerpoints and demonstrations but with no lesson or goal in mind. Then, gives take home assignments with problems you have never seen. Even if he works a problem he doesnt explain what hes doing so you cant follow. Expects you to know physics, math, and music! **DO NOT TAKE Physics of Music** +1 for only 1-2 grades all yr

He does all the problems in the longest way possible simply because its good for you. I did a ton of book problems the way the book teaches and aced his class. He's nice and willing to help but complicates the material. He forgets to tell you how he does and gets equations from which makes the class really confusing. He really cares & wants to help

HE is OK. He will help you if you ask. His tests completely different from the text book and problems he solves in the class. So, you have to study a lot in order to pass his tests. And pray that your classmates are stupid enough to curve the grade.

Make sure to go to class to get attendance points. He will go over a few problems in class, which may or may not be helpful to you. Try to read the chapter before going to class, it will help to understand what he is talking about. He is super helpful if you seek his help outside of class. He really wants you to understand Physics.

He does not teach at all. If you are good in algebra/trig you will be ok. Go to class to get the attendance points. I did not buy the book and I expect to make an A. He sends out homework problems that you can do to prepare for test. His curve helps a whole lot usually around 20+ points. There is basically no way to fail. Study and youll be fine.
