I took comp I online at LSC. More evaluator than teacher, acts like comp I is a post graduate course. Grades essays very hard, offers no real help, no real feed back, doesn't answer direct questions, vague and ambiguous instructions. More concerned with MLA format than content, slow with grades. Avoid if you can, he expects perfection instantly

Worst teacher I have ever had!!! No one in my class got over a C on any of the papers. Refuses to tell you what you did wrong either so there is no way to correct your mistakes. Cancels class all the time. You will learn absolutely nothing useful, only his crackpot government theories. It's time to put down the pipe Oveson. Avoid at all costs!!!

I never want to hear the word archetype ever again. I had his class last year and i was very envious of my friend who withdrew from the class. He's horrible and like a bunch of people already said, he picks favorites and if you're not a favorite, you will not get a good grade. If you have him, suck up as much as you can.

This class was a complete joke. I love english, but he almost ruined it for me. We watched a movie once on how 9/11 was covered up...English? No. Nothing had anything to do with the subject. And if you ask a question, he rubs his weird beard and restates it saying hmm...and gives no answer. I can't believe I wasted my money and time on this class.

Comment:

He isn't political because it's english, not ethics. If you read the book and assigned readings you are fine for quizzes. and the sole purpose of the class is to learn how to use the handbook and become a better writer. I never got an A on a paper, but got an A in the class. He's very easy.

To be honest, I really though Professor Oveson did a poor job conducting the classroom atmosphere. In my opinion, he does not facilitate discussions very well. In addition, his exams typically require you to juxtapose two seperate works, so if you are not confortable with that, I would suggest you to look elsewhere. However, by no means lousy.

Grades hard. Lectures in class are entertaining/easy to follow along, but no make-up work, even for extenuating circumstances. Very difficult grader when it comes to the essays. Take it with someone else if you can.

he does a lot for motivating you to think-inspires critical thinking. he showed several videos to make you think. class discussion can be very lively. he helps you if you need it-just be sure to go to class. you get daily points for attending, just show up. helps you understand what other 4 year classes will be like.

Not an easy class but he knows what he's talking about. He can be a hard grader but hey this is college not the place to slack off! Do the homework and do it well or you won't pass. You'll learn a lot and come away feeling acomplished.

Uses alot of current events(mostly political anti Bush) while teaching. I didn't know if I was in Social studies or English. He didn't help you correct your wrongs...he wanted you to figure it out yourself. Isn't that what the teacher is hired for?

Oveson is a horrible teacher.All the class consisted of was movies against Bush, him tearing apart the government,and then occasionally a paper.When he gives the assignment, he doesn't explain it he reads what he has typed,if you have a question it won't get answered not to mention the fact he doesn't knwo what he is talking about ever! no evidence

Mr. Oveson is not a good teacher. I did well in his class however, I would not recommend him to anyone at any time. He incorporates a political tyrade into many lectures, bordering on paranoia. He is not exactly a liberal but he is definitely on the fringes of political society. My main disappointment with him is his lacking of teaching skill.

He is very Anti-Bush! He thinks he can solve all our gov't's problems! He dosen't teach the class, he has the students teach each other. Bush is Pro-life and so am I! All babies should be allowed to live! Hey Ovey, Govennor Tim would make a great President, no? Oh whopps I used the comma in the wrong place!! God loves all of us!
