Comment:

Colleen is not a good professor in my opinion. She is very unprofessional in the way she treats her students. Often puts down students ideas, or doesn't understand the plausibility of an idea because it Is outside of the box or untraditional. Criticized a lot, but didn't suggest ways to improve an existing story. She would suggest starting over.

Comment:

Lacking a single screenwriting credit, Colleen was a very poor instructor, lacked knowledge outside of the conventional classic Hollywood narrative model, and consistently talked down to her students. While she used the traditional Hollywood storytelling criteria - mirroring theatre's narrative form, she disregards film's subtle nature. Terrible.

Comment:

Colleen is a good professor. Colleen will make your story better, and she really does care. But if you don't care about her she's not going out of her way for you. Ask for help and she will do all she can. She knows the industry, so let go of your precious stories and let her fix them. Put effort in this class and it will pay off. Go to class.

Comment:

For the most part Colleen knows what she is talking about. That being said she is quite arrogant and for the most part discourages young writers from pursuing the craft which she seems to get pleasure from. If you can take this class with any of the other SW teachers, I highly encourage it. She doesn't care about her students.

I enjoyed her class (many years ago - and I mean many). I remember her being a hard marker. But - three years down the line I went to her asking for a recommendation for a master's program. She gave it to me, and that changed my life. I never got to say thank you - but it meant so much to me. She really does care, if you want to learn.

I've heard mention that Colleen is a recipient of the governor generals award. If this is true it is not for any reason clear to me. Her lectures encompass nothing you can't find in the introduction to any generic screenwriting book. She is arrogant, unprofessional, and shameless in shifting her failures as a prof onto her students.

I admire her intelligence and you can learn in her screenwriting class. I would also like to say that, if I had a choice to be in her class again, I wouldn't do it. :) way too impossible to get a good grade no matter how hard you try and then...then after a while you just lose all that interest and initial drive. :)

she hates it if you don't agree with whatever she says in the class! Yes, she's a great prof and you can learn a lot, but she doesn't welcome new ideas and makes sure that it's reflected in your grade!

She is the most unfair marker in the world! The problem with her is that I don't think she has enough time to read all the scripts so she'd give you a comment about it asking a question such as "But how do we know this?"- and it's all explained on the next page! I regret taking her class!

Very intelligent and well-read. Sometimes a bit disorganized, but some of her classes are very inspiring and some of the things she says on theme and character development are very profund. Tough marker but you'll learn something.

She didn't need to be there - we just needed a cd on repeat that alternates between saying "what's the theme?" and "where's the conflict?" (and if she knew how to read a script properly, she'd be able to answer those questions for herself...)

She is one of those rare professors that can really teach you how to WRITE! And that's tough. An emotional, intelligent person that really cares about her students. The only thing is- she's a tough marker, but in the end the most important thig is that she DRIVES her students to be the best they can.

Utterly incompetent. Classes are unfocused, pointless ramblings. No sense of humor. Feedback is entirely negative. She gives no encouragment or positive feedback if she doesn't like your idea. Totally unflexible. Tells you what she wanted on assignment after she marks them. I want my money back.

Watch out for this one. If you like the kind of movies and writing she does, you'll do fine, but she really doesn't like/get satire, science fiction, fantasy, and so on. She's also not a big fan of men, but it doesn't seem to affect her grading.
