I made an account just to review Mr. Brouwer. This was by far the toughest COM elective class I have ever taken. He will not post the notes online so you must show up to every class and take proper notes (which are hard to understand) to prepare for the test. MUST follow rules for the paper 100% or he will take of plenty of points for it. DONT TAKE

He is very genuine in his teaching. You can tell that he really put the time and energy into finding material that is relevant to this class since there is no textbook. He is very respectful and polite even when talking about controversial conversations and is very well organized. Also gives in depth feedback on all assignments.

I had Dr. Brouwer for Rhetoric of Social Issues, and it was easily my toughest class that I took that semester. He's extremely passionate about the social issues we discuss, and he makes sure everyone gets to share their opinion on the matter. Lots of reading, sometimes very dry, but there's only one textbook you'll need. Don't skip class.

Best prof I have ever had, hands down. The most genuine, nice dude probably in the universe. Handles sensitive topics well, and really listens to comments during lecture. There is a participation grade, so be sure to add to discussions frequently. Textbook is used significantly, and as long as you meet paper's requirements, you're set.

genuinely the best teacher I've ever had. cares so much about what he's teaching and makes the class so interesting and fun. there are 5 "papers" you have to write but 3 of them are only a page and the other 2 are three pages. It's super easy if you pay attention to lectures and even though attendance is mandatory you don't mind having to go.

Would not take this professor again! I am a senior and this was my most frustrating and difficult class that I took. The lectures were boring and he grades extremely hard. Tough class to pass and the tests are extremely hard too.

I would never take this professor again. Grades way too hard and the tests were extremely difficult. Lectures were boring and difficult to sit through. This class was the most difficult class I have taken because of how he grades.

I would not recommend his class. Few points are offered and he is a tough grader. I followed his paper criteria and still could not get a good grade. Tests are hard too.

Great professor! He knows how to teach sensitive subject material very well and you really get a lot out of this class. Go to lecture, read the weekly readings and take notes because he doesn't post the powerpoint slides on BlackBoard. Overall the class was relatively hard but if you put in the work you will get real life knowledge out of it!

Professor Brouwer was by far one of my favorite professors at ASU. He is incredibly passionate about the subject and genuinely wants his students to learn and do well. If you attend class and take notes, he basically tells you what you need to know for tests. One of those classes that you will always remember. & it helps that he is beautiful

One of the best professors I have ever had. Passionate and knowledgeable, with a wonderful sensitivity about approaching delicate subject matter. The class itself was very insightful, and I learned a great deal. I would recommend this class to any and every student, as it carefully explores critical social inequalities.

You can sense his passion for this topic from the moment you meet him. That being said, he does not accept mediocre work. Effort is a huge requirement, and that is because he genuinely wants to teach his students something. Participate in class and go to his office hours. Be ready to do some reading, critical thinking, & follow the Syllabus.

He is a very good teacher, helpful and clear. It really is the subject of the entire class that is awful, but sounds interesting. If you have to take this class then I'd recommend him though, I love the way the syllabus was layed out and how organized the assignments are. The tests are based on entirely of what he says in class, so take notes!

The worst course I have taken. Bring a premed, I tried as hard as possible and just got murdered on the essays. I went to office hours I think 7 times and just continually got horrific scores. I get good grades in other literature or science courses, but this one was simply crazy. I was respectful so I don't think that was a problem.

Gender and Com with him was the best! I am currently in a bunch of courses with a bunch of BAD teachers! I am thinking about the good teachers I have had and he popped in my head. A must... if you want a quality professor! Super organized although he demands hard work! That is what a professor should do though!!!
