Comment:

The best professor I have ever had. Class is like story time - incredibly informative, interesting, and structured. Lots of reading, but none of it is tedious. Papers are given a lot of attention and graded fairly. Enjoyed every class, learned a great deal, and actually looked forward to writing the papers.

Comment:

Old school professor. One of the best at the school. A fair amount of reading, but pretty interesting stuff. Also, historiographical studies in this class are great training for history majors. Not too heady for non-hist majors, though. Loves Trinity and loves teaching. Take either class.

Comment:

Yes, he has a great speaking voice, and if you love straight lectures without very limited interaction, then this is your class. His feedback on papers is difficult to read, and what is legible tends to be hyper-critical. I was inspired by his affection toward Lincoln, but was not inspired by the long-winded straight-lectures;brilliant guy however.

What a great lecturer. Has a great voice and the substance to go with it. I know that the History Department gets all the love here at Trinity as being the best department, as it is blessed with such amazing talent, that guys like Spencer often go underappreciated.

I loved this class with Prof. Spencer. Great guy, great speaking voice. Extremely knowlegable about the Civil War. Not a ton of reading. If you pay attention in class you will do well.

J-Ron is the man. Great lectures and an awesome speaking voice. There's a lot of assigned reading, but the tests and papers are fair and he sets you up for success.
