Bowman is an easy teacher who tells history like a story. The exams are a lot of writing, but he gives the essay questions ahead of time. Plus you get to bring in cheat sheet. Easy A.

If you don't like history, I would definitely recommend you don't take this class. If you want to learn a lot about U.S. history -things you never learned before- then this class is for you. It's not easy, but if you put in the work on the out of class essays, exam essays, and go to discussion, you will be fine. Bowman is pretty interesting.

Class requires a lot of work. Have to read the documents and go to discussion section. Have to do 3 essay exams that require a lot of prep work and 3 papers. Class depends a lot on your TA...when I took 109 I had a really hard TA and it sucked, but when I took 108 it was easier.

I thought Dr. Bowmans class was great overall. The grade is based on 3 exams (which you can use your own notes on), 3 out of class papers (which are only two pages), and random pop quizzes that he gives during 10 classes to reward you for attendance. His lectures are all over the place but you can still get a good grade without attending his lectur

Dr. Bowman knows his subject and lectures in a really clear and enthusiastic way. The book's not entirely necessary, but the document collection is. Out of class essays are total cake, but the exam essays are passable only if you attend lecture or study a fair amout the night before. Great class overall.

To do well in this class, you have to be willing to work. The textbook isn't completely necessary, but reading certainly helps. Read the documents and go to discussion. Bowman is really smart and enthusiastic, but his lectures can be all over the place. Tests are all essay, but you have a cheat sheet so they aren't too bad.

Cake! Total cake! Especially now that he lets you bring a cheat sheet to every exam. I thought his lectures were pretty interesting at times; he foams at the mouth during his Bank of the US lectures. Keep up with your document collection and make sure you understand it, that's how you get A+'s to decorate your fridge. Get Stone as your TA!

Really enjoyed the class. He knows his stuff and doesnt teach facts as much as concepts, therefore you arent locked into remembering a bunch of random dates and things but rather ideas that you can use your own thoughts to expand on. With some intrest in history it is a very manageable A.

this class is pretty easy but it does require a lot of outside reading and you need to do it in order to get a good grade also make sure that you go and see him for your id's or the outlines he wont give you the answers but only go to see him if you are prepared and you have done all the reading because he wont just hand over information

I thought Bowman's lectures were a tad boring, and it began to increasingly become more boring as the end of the smester approached. However, his class was not hard, it just required a lot of outside class work. The readings are very important and if you write or outline the essays before the exam, you will get at least a B.
