Comment:
Dr. Kirby was different than a lot of profs, but I don't think that made her a bad prof. She took a while to give feedback and grade things, but reaching out to her always worked (could take a little while). She structured the class so you learn key concepts well, but not as many details. Success kinda depends on group members pulling their weight.

Comment:
1300 is small group behavior, so the majority of the class is graded on group projects. Kirby is super nit picky on presentations so it's hard to get above an A- on a presentation. She is also AWFUL at communication and giving guidance on assignments, but if you stay REALLy on top of it, its not bad.

Comment:
Yes, as other ratings note, Dr. Kirby is disorganized. It takes her a while to get grades back and post assignments. However, her lectures and class activities are never that boring and she picks really good TA's for this class. If you put in a little effort, it is not super difficult to succeed. She is a very nice and understanding professor.

I appreciate that Kirby frames the course using the change project. However overall the class is disorganized and inconsistent in its goals. Assignments had minimal guidelines and it could be difficult to meet her expectations. Not a particularly difficult class, but I learned more about presentation skills than small group behavior.

Dr Kirby is very nice but super unorganized. You definitely have to chase her down for feedback, and she often forgets to post assignments til the last minute and doesn't really answer emails. Overall the class isn't too bad.

Ok -- to be fair, she's been through a lot the past year or so. And Kirby is very sweet, caring, and intelligent. But she's heavily unorganized. She'll give assignments with little to no notice, give extremely unclear instructions, and her lectures are kinda useless. Good class though -- not too hard and she's a sweetheart.

A really terrible professor. The class is an absolute joke, you learn absolutely nothing, and she doesn't tell you your grade until the last day of class. Really nice person but the class is so brutally stupid

The syllabus was extremely unclear, and we were not given a timeline. She would tell us on Thursday that a long assignment was due Friday morning. She was horrible about giving feedback on time, and everything was rushed. Some weeks, there would be no work, and others we would have a crazy amount. Take with someone else if you can.

She's the worst. So poorly organized, and never gives you the real expectations for assignments then takes off points because you didn't read her mind. She is also super passive aggressive and will get mad at students for things that are clearly her job.

Makes no effort to help students succeed. Extremely disorganized. Does not communicate expectations, due dates, or any form of helpful information. I feel terrible that I paid so much to take this class and have been set up to fail.

Genuinely terrible. The material is interesting but the way Kirby structures the class and content is incredibly frustrating. No communication with students about assignments and there is conflicting information about deadlines, dates, etc everywhere. Does not respond to emails and has randomly assigned work literally the day before it was due.

I have been in Professor Kirby's class for 3 weeks now and I'm completely lost every time. She is very unorganized and does not respond to emails at all. She also does not tell you when she posts things on brightspace and its very confusing. It's almost as if she does not want students to do well in her class.

Professor Kirby is extremely unclear in her expectations and guidelines. On every small group assignment, our group was left questioning what we should be doing. She is also very inflexible when it comes to questioning the grade given.

This is the professor you take if you really want a good grade and don't care what the subject is about. I took pos psych and even as someone who went into the class very interested, I didn't learn much. Everything we studied could have been found by a simple google search. Boring, lots of assignments but EASY A. Shes super nice too, which helps.

I really thought I was going to love this class- however, as the semester has gone on, it has gotten harder and harder to feel as though the workload is justified. I had a very hard time getting good grades on any of the papers even though I put hours of work into them and felt as though class time was often not utilized well.

Good professor, her Small Group Behavior class takes a lot of work but overall wasn't a bad experience. Her grading guidelines and instructions for assignments are often super vague so that's an issue for a bunch of people in my class.

She literally never replies to emails and takes at least a month to post grades for each assignment -- often only after the next assignment is due, so you get points off for making the same mistake since you didn't see the correction in time. Participate in class, at least skim the reading, and go to office hours if you have any questions/concerns.

Best class I've had at Vanderbilt BY FAR. Don't listen to whiners. Yes, you have to actually do work for this class. Welcome to the real world. But she's amazing, extremely knowledgable, very engaging, helpful outside of class, very responsive. I have taken every class she teaches, and wish she taught more.

I would not recommend taking any class with Dr. Kirby. She took around a week on average to reply to emails. She randomly has quizzes due outside of class with no warning. All grades take many weeks to go up. Essentially, you have no idea how you are doing in the class until the end. I have not had this experience with any other professor.

I'm in Social Psychology with her and I would never take another class with her. She takes a really long time to get the grades for assignments back to you. She isn't helpful at all. She gives grading criteria and then counts you off even though you did exactly what she asked. Study everything from class before going to the book, her tests are hard
